Ya know, I'm really surprised at the lack of response to this thread. C'mon guys, counter. I expected at least some of the regulars to respond to this.

it's not worth it, this is very similar to the religeous threads, we all have our beliefs and arguing/debating is futile.

We all know that Kerry screwed up trying to use his war record, as it was not bulletproof. He should have known that he was going to be microscopically picked apart atom by atom. Anything that could be used against him was and still is ... true or not. Most real Americans don't actually care so much about the Kerry of 30-35 years ago. It is the fact that he is Democrat waffling back and forth that needs to be addressed. The issues are what I wanna get to, not his service records. Beat him down for being pro-choice. Kick him in the teeth for his stand on issues.

My son is not going to have to deal with his war records, but rather Kerry???s decisions about the economy. What are the results of his actions going be over the next four years and how will my son???s quality of life be affected? What about the four years after that?

It is about Bush right now that we need to worry. This tit-for-tat bullshit is a waste of time. Lets debate the real issues that we are confronting right now.
  1. A war that we do not belong in.
  2. An economy that is in ruin.
  3. A political force that is built upon greed and deception instead of serving the needs of the country.
  4. The rights of Americans to question and control its government.
  5. A morally bakrupt person that shields himslef with religion.
  6. Cronyism
This is the part where I get called an idiot because the economy is doing so great and any fool should know that. When you try to slam me over this do so with stat's not rhetoric ... fatcs and figures with sources not bullshit name calling. Show me where this country's economy is getting better. I do not know any working person that is earining as much as he or she did four years ago after all the adjustments are made. The higher costs of gas, milk, and beef are a pitance compared to the lower wages and outsourcing that are a standard now.

Those of us that took a chance and are creating our own incomes may or may not be doing well, but we are not the norm. It is trhe working class American that has been pounded on.

you are absolutely correct...we may have more jobs, BUT do u know what kind of jobs those are?? they are jobs such as burger king, mcdonalds etc...these type of jobs will never help the economy....it just gets irritating that people really think bush is doing a good job, b/c he really isnt AT ALL...and to top it off he's fuking idiot....(quick ex: the use of the word sovernty(sp)u all kow exactly what i am talking about with that word too)

Yes we are fighting terrorism. Saddam always supported ME terrorist groups. Remember when he was buying new houses for every Palestinian family, who's kid toddled into an Israeli barmitzvah, and blew up children with his/her body bomb?

Ive listed the reasons we attacked Saddam so many times Im just not going to do it again here. In many ways Islamic fundamentalism is much like fascism in WWll. While Saddam wasn't a fundamentalist he was, and always would be, a danger to American interests. I mean look at his history man! The fact alone that he flouted all those UN resolutions so many times, and got away with it, set a dangerous precedent for other tyrants to follow. And the only way were going to defeat these hostile regimes is to overthrow them and install democratic Govt.'s & values, like we did with the Nazi's and the Japs. And such overthrow is probably going to have to be done at the point of a gun, "at least with some of these monsters".

My only regret is we stopped at Iraq!
what about iran, n. korea, sudan, etc...are these countries not more dangerous than iraq, which we all know was no threat to us...sure i'm glad suddam is gone, but how many times are you gonna change your answer as to why we went to iraq in the first place....if we are gonna go to war, go to war with a real threat!

Hello everyone. I am new here and see that pondering the political implication of neo-conservative doctrine as applied to the currant administration is a "hot" topic. I look forward to participating in this should I be allowed to do so. Are there any rules of conduct for new members or are we permitted to wage in as we see fit?

No wonder you're so hard to argue with... no matter the rebuttal, you still cling to your views. Like a creationist in Evolution 101, every argument is futile because your beliefs are based on faith. Really, Prince, that's a fabulous way to choose a president.

(CNN) -- Osama bin Laden's top lieutenant, Ayman al-Zawahiri, appeared in a videotaped message Thursday on the Arabic-language TV news network Al-Jazeera saying southern and eastern Afghanistan are controlled by the mujahedeen, or holy warriors.

He also said mujahedeen fighters in Iraq "turned America's plan upside down."

"The defeat of America in Iraq and Afghanistan has become just a matter of time, with God's help," he said.

"Americans in both countries are between two fires. If they carry on, they will bleed to death -- and if they pull out, they lose everything."

Wearing a white turban and glasses, al-Zawahiri said American forces are hunkered down and afraid to respond to advances of the mujahedeen.

There currently are about 16,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan conducting daily patrols in remote mountain villages, mostly in the eastern part of the country. There are nearly 140,000 American troops in Iraq.

"East and south Afghanistan is an open battlefield for the mujahedeen, while the liars are hiding in the big capitals," he said, a Kalashnikov assault rifle resting on the wall behind him.

"The Americans are hiding now in trenches and they refuse to come out and meet the mujahedeen, despite the mujahedeen antagonizing them with bombing and shooting and roadblocks around them. Their defense focuses on airstrikes, which wastes America's money in just stirring up sand."

Al-Zawahiri, a 53-year-old Egyptian-born physician, spoke in a studio-like setting.

He did not refer to any dates, but he did mention the Iraqi transitional government. Al-Jazeera's anchor also said he mentioned the Darfur crisis in Sudan. The network said it would release more of the tape later.

Al-Jazeera's anchor said the mujahedeen fighters claimed they had been getting a lot of support in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The anchor said they claimed that had it not been for the Pakistani army offensive along the border, U.S. forces would have been "driven out a long time ago."

A CIA spokesman said the agency was analyzing the tape to determine "whether it really is new" and what other information it might offer.

U.S. intelligence officials said al-Zawahiri was believed to be in the Afghanistan-Pakistan border area.

The video came almost a year to the day since al Qaeda last released a videotaped message -- and followed the terror group's history of releasing video messages ahead of the anniversary commemorating the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Last year, on September 10, the group released video of bin Laden walking in a mountainous area with other al Qaeda members, with an audio message from al-Zawahiri calling on the mujahedeen to "attack and devour the Americans and bury them in the graveyard of Iraq."

On September 9, 2002, Al-Jazeera broadcast a videotape from bin Laden, who named the 9/11 hijackers and said, "When you talk about the invasion of New York and Washington, you talk about the men who changed the face of history and went against the traitors."

Al Qaeda has released audiotaped messages over the past year, but it has rarely used video since the 9/11 attacks.

According to senior U.S. intelligence sources, groups of about 600 to 800 Taliban or al Qaeda fighters are able to roam in parts of Afghanistan, primarily in the south and east.

The southeastern portion of Afghanistan is controlled mostly by Pashtun tribes and poses one of the greatest security threats to U.S. forces in the country.

CNN's Nic Robertson, Octavia Nasr and David Ensor contributed to this report.
