Interesting article on the Keystone Pipeline...

The easy caricature is not true, and it's not the whole story, says Rep. Ed Markey, the ranking Democrat on the House Natural Resources Committee. Markey agrees it would be "a very good thing if the U.S. could be reliant on North American-produced oil," but that's not what the Canadians intend, he says. Keystone oil is headed for Port Arthur, Texas - a foreign-trade zone that allows tax-free transactions- and then on to Asia, not the U.S.

nice.

Maybe someone can explain this for me. I stay a little ignorant on some political subjects so I don't go postal, but....... If the oil well that blew in the gulf last year was dumping by some estimates up to one million gallons of oil a day into the gulf and there are what 20 maybe 30 rigs out there then where is all of this oil going? Do the numbers not add up or am I stupid?

REDDOG they keep the supply here low on purpose and they know the demand will always be high--that way they can ram it up our ass's any time they want a few extra billion in their pockets--greedy bastards

This article is saying they were gonna do that anyway, they just wanted to run it through our property to get to a tax free zone in TX.

maybe i should have done this

Asia is the destination for that oil anyway. Can't you wrap your brain around facts?

just in case they change their mind

How do you steal gas from a pipeline? - Slate Magazine

In the early 1980s, a sophisticated gang tapped into a 16-inch oil pipeline buried in California. They leased tanker trucks and hooked up their own underground pipe to the existing system. The scheme netted 10 million gallons of crude oil over a three-year stretch, until the company began to notice regular and repeating drops in pipeline pressure. (Pipe sensors have trouble detecting small or irregular changes in flow.)

Your unfounded arrogance is overshadowed, only by your unfounded superiority complex and the shrieking sound of your self proclaimed socialist talking head.:blah:

Beginning in 2005, Congressional Republicans and the oil industry touted the 2,147 mile-long Keystone XL 830,000 barrel per day (bpd) pipeline, running from Canada?s Hardisty, Alberta oil sands to U.S. refineries on the Gulf of Mexico.

But last month, in an attempt to force a decision from the Obama administration on the pipeline, congressional Republicans tacked a rider onto legislation extending the payroll tax cut by requiring the government to decide within 60 days on the issue, which was rejected for the foreseeable future.

Furious at the setback, Canadian Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper threatened to sell the output to China. Last week Harper made an official visit to China and the fruits of that trip are already evident. During a Canada-China business dinner in Guangzhou Harper informed his audience, ?We are an emerging energy superpower. We have abundant supplies of virtually every form of energy. And you know, we want to sell our energy to people who want to buy our energy. It's that simple,? adding that virtually all of Canada's energy exports currently go to the U.S. and that it was ?increasingly clear? that Canadian commercial interests are best served by diversifying its energy markets.

Guangdong Province Governor Zhu Xiaodan, who attended the dinner, noted that southern China consumes an enormous and ever growing amount of energy and needs additional supplies, telling his guest, "It's our hope in the future we can import more high-quality energy and resource products from Canada

An alternative to the fickle Americans seems to be on the horizon and Zhu?s hopes have been answered. The Calgary Herald reported on 17 February that Canadian oilsands producer Cenovus Energy Inc. has sent its first shipment of crude oil to China

The oil would be sold on international markets regardless of where it is pupmed out of the ground. The additional supply wouldn't reduce the cost by much, but every little bit helps. It also wouldn't make the US energy independent. But, if hell breaks loose in the ME and the west gets cut off, seems it would be nice to have a domestic supply and not be so dependent on the arabs; let alone the jobs that would be created here when unemployment is 17-18% with no end in sight. Bottom line is, and we all know it, the Barry admin rejected it because his liberal, tree-hugging faggot environmental special interest base expected him to do so. The rejection had absolutely nothing to do with weighing the pros/cons of the project itself. Hopefully, by the end of his 2nd term, we'll all be running our vehicles on that new clean renewable pixie dust we keep hearing about.

Arrogance and superiority complex? Not hardly, but it might seem that way to someone who takes everything the GOP puts out as gospel.

The timing of the Gulf oil spill also had significant relevance. At the end of the day, if these assholes could find a way to pump it without spilling it there would be no problem. Instead, they cut corners to maximize profits and then fuck up the environment. This is the way business is run here in the states, nobody does their job because wages are so low. Every time I go to Wegmans I get organic everything and 9 times out of 10 the person ringing it up rings it up as conventional even though there's a sticker on it. Now, the nuthugging GOP folk probably think that I should correct that person's error but at the end of the day, if they were paid and trained properly it wouldn't happen. Plus, they never ask me if it's organic anyway, they ask if it's a parsnip or a turnip and I tell them. If they ask if it's organic I tell them, if they just ask what it is I tell them, but they never do. I guess the bean counters probably figure it's better to pay them nothing and have them fuck up the process. However, that's not my problem and it ends up saving me about $20 a week and a little bit of ass cancer a few decades down the road.

much sympathy. if there's any chance of blood and that bothers you tell her to wear a tampon with the string tucked up inside or cut off. some people just don't respect something bothers you if it doesn't bother them. not very mature.

Reminds me of a moronic cashier I had at Wmart. I was buying a cheap ass Chinese brand microwave for $35, plus a few small odds and ends. The broad rang up my other shit and forgot to ring up the biggest got-damn item in my cart, the microwave. So, I got out with a $12 total instead of the $47 total I owed. It felt kind of good to cheat Wmart actually.

I remember filling up my 1999 cavalier for 1.02/Gallon.

I remember filling up my 1999 cavalier for 1.02/Gallon.

it's not 1999 any more. the cost of crude not only increases with supply & demand it increases with commodities and futures trading AND the inflation rate of the USD.

the Saudi/Chinese oil refinery deal will supply fuel directly to China, fuel not sold in USD. the petro dollar is on it's way out, it's usefulness in the markets is over. country's are increasing direct trade with each with each other in their own currency's.

along with the fact that there is no energy exporting country that has a high demand for refined crude at home AND low prices at the pump...not in the OECD and never in world economic history

Wow. I hadn't heard about this. I don't see why the saudis would want to be paid by the Chinese in yuan when they're are know for currency manipulation. Given the financial instability in EU, I don't see how it would benefit the OPEC countries to trade in the Euro, or any other currency for that matter. The USD may be slipping, but I don't see how any other currency could be a safer bet right now.

The link didn't work. Do you have the url?

Saudi Arabia And China Team Up To Build A Gigantic New Oil Refinery – Is This The Beginning Of The End For The Petrodollar?

Gears...China is also buying up a lot of gold and they are a lending nation not a debtor like the US. my guess is their long term plan is to have the Yuan replace the USD as the world's #1 reserve currency.

Yes, but I suspect there's one helluva bubble waiting to burst in China. The real estate is insanely overprices. You see a lot of the same stuff happening over there that was happening in the US that led to the real estate bubble we had a few years ago. In Beijing alone, there are cranes, block after block of torn down building for pending construction projects, as well as brand new high end apt buildings sitting with 25% occupancy. It looks like a financial disaster waiting to happen. One thing they do have going for them is that their lending policies were never as lax as ours, so a lot of that stuff is paid for.

China's biggest problem seems to be that corruption is so pervasive at all levels, in both govt and the private sector. If you have $, you can buy a driver's license. If you have a good business plan and contacts in govt, you can pay officials off to get all the permits and licensing you need to start your business. Bribes and perks aren't looked down on over there. It's just how business is done. There are even turf wars between the govt and the military as far as who's in charge in some smaller towns. It's still a very disorganized society and the way people most people think over there is still quite backward. I don't see them becoming a developed country until they become more developed intellectually and stop turning a blind eye to all the corruption that goes on.

it's one of the inherent problems with the fiat currency, they are always over-valued.
