My friend just purchased a weight gainer and he tells me one shake contains 1,800 calories. Can your body process that many calories?

Im thinking of purchasing a weight gainer but only adding one scoop to milk instead of 3. Isnt 600 calories + a banana and milk good enough?

PS: Why the hell is their so much sugar in that stuff?

sounds like a waste of money and probably not healthy at all

because it makes you gain weight

So are weight gainers on the whole a waist of time/money?

the human body can only utilize so many calories at one time. 1,800 cals is way too much unless your friend happens to have around 350 lbs of LBM..

there is so much sugar in cheap weight gainers because #1 sugars are cheap, #2 they elicit a very high insulin response which is very anabolic.

Yes, your body can process an 1,800 calorie meal. Some of it will be stored as fat, though.

I have a buddy in San Diego that weighs around 290 lbs. He's a black man that is built to the tee sporting 22" arms and a massive chest and legs to go with it. He also doesn't believe in overtraining and workout 6 days a week with ton's of sets. He's 6'3'' tall also. When he is bulking he takes in 3 shakes a day that have 2500 cal's in each of them. He takes in a little ove 11k in cal's on his bulk. He keeps his bodyfat under 10% at all times to.

For you that think I'm kidding and if you live in the San diego area, you can check him out. He works at the home depot as a supervisor in the electrical dept off the 805 doinf the evenings. His name is David L.

Yes it can/will digest those calories. But what it does with those calories is another matter (it will pretty much overwhelm the bodies immediate needs and most will either be burned off via increased NEAT or be conveniently packaged into fat to preserve for later use).

Don't buy it. Spend your money on real food instead. Supplements are SUPPLEMENTS and most weight gainers are crap at best. EAT REAL FOOD!

Or, just get a good quality whey powder and do:
Oats + banana + milk + whey + pb instead.

Because companies are cheap and sugar is cheap and adds lots of calories so the make money off unknowing people who could get the same effect for a lot cheaper just via chugging down on honey/dextrose or table sugar. ;)

i'd look into another weight gainer.

Muscle Gelz Transdermals
IronMag Labs Prohormones
Is that better than the natural one that Emma proposed though..

Personally, the real food is 100 x better - not only in terms of offering you a better balance of carbs/protein and healthy fats (and better types of these) but also in terms of offering you things such as vitamins, minerals, fibre, phytonutrients, water and a plethora of other health benefits!

Plus, having the real food will also help to trigger satiety signals - you are are more likely to feel satsified and less likely to go searching for chocolate 1 hr later. ;)

Damned straight. Homemade calorie packed shake are the way to go. You can customize it, they are cheaper, they are healthier, and they are more conducive to gaining muscle as opposed to fat.
