Sup bros,

Ive been out of the gym for about 6 months, inbetween my time off from the gym I switched jobs and now I sit on my butt for damn near 12 hours a day. I work shift work so when i work nights i get bored and GRAZE the fridge all night long! Since ive started this new job ive put on a good 10-15lbs of FAT.. I've also increased my smoking because I also get alot of time off aswell.

Today is the day Im dieting and getting back into the gym, I really want to get ready by summer to get back were I was..

The biggest problem also is SMOKING.. Man im so tired of spending the money on it and I cant do cardio for shit! I need some tips on quiting, real advice from real quiters.

Thanks for the vent! :D

Agreed. Helped me quit within 2 weeks. And I smoked for 16 years. But watch for the lucid dreams man. Its serious stuff. Stop taking it if you have them. I used to wake up thinking I had murdered my whole family. Shit was real. It also made me swell really bad, but it goes away after quitting the chantix. Good exchange for not smoking anymore.

Works really well for some, or extremely bad for others. Worth a try just to see how you'll react. It made a guy we use to call "smokey bones" quit within 3 weeks and he was a 3 1/2 pack a day smoker for 23 years. Unreal how it got him to quit but some sides are pretty crazy for some people.

All about Chantix/Varenicline
Why is this medication prescribed?

Varenicline is used along with education and counseling to help people stop smoking. Varenicline is in a class of medications called smoking cessation aids. It works by blocking the pleasant effects of nicotine (from smoking) on the brain.

How should this medicine be used?

Varenicline comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It is usually taken once or twice a day with a full glass of water (8 ounces [240 mL]) after eating. Take varenicline at around the same time(s) every day. If you are taking varenicline twice a day, take one dose in the morning and one dose in the evening. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take varenicline exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
Your doctor will probably start you on a low dose of varenicline and gradually increase your dose over the first week of treatment.
Set a quit date to stop smoking, and start taking varenicline 1 week before that date. You may continue to smoke during this first week of varenicline treatment, but make sure to try to stop smoking on the quit date you have chosen. Alternatively, you may start taking varenicline and then quit smoking between 8–35 days after starting treatment with varenicline.
It may take several weeks for you to feel the full benefit of varenicline. You may slip and smoke during your treatment. If this happens, you may still be able to stop smoking. Continue to take varenicline and to try not to smoke.
You will probably take varenicline for 12 weeks. If you have completely stopped smoking at the end of 12 weeks, your doctor may tell you to take varenicline for another 12 weeks. This may help keep you from starting to smoke again.
If you have not stopped smoking at the end of 12 weeks, talk to your doctor. Your doctor can try to help you understand why you were not able to stop smoking and make plans to try to quit again.

Other uses for this medicine

This medication may be prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

What special precautions should I follow?

Before taking varenicline,
  • tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to varenicline or any other medications.
  • tell your doctor and pharmacist what other prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking or plan to take. Be sure to mention any of the following: anticoagulants ('blood thinners') such as warfarin (Coumadin); insulin; other medications to help you stop smoking such as bupropion (Wellbutrin, Zyban) and nicotine gum, inhaler, lozenges, nasal spray, or skin patches; and theophylline (Theo-24). Your doctor may need to change the doses of some of your medications once you stop smoking.
  • tell your doctor if you have ever had withdrawal symptoms when you tried to quit smoking in the past and if you have or have ever had heart, blood vessel, or kidney disease
  • tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking varenicline, call your doctor.
  • you should know that varenicline may make you drowsy, dizzy, lose consciousness, or have difficulty concentrating. There have been reports of traffic accidents, near-miss accidents, and other types of injuries in people who were taking varenicline. Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how this medication affects you.
  • ask your doctor for advice and for written information to help you stop smoking. You are more likely to stop smoking during your treatment with varenicline if you get information and support from your doctor.
What special dietary instructions should I follow?

Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, continue your normal diet.

What should I do if I forget a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

What side effects can this medication cause?

Varenicline may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
  • nausea
  • constipation
  • gas
  • vomiting
  • heartburn
  • bad taste in the mouth
  • increased or decreased appetite
  • trouble falling asleep or staying asleep
  • unusual dreams or nightmares
  • headache

Some side effects can be serious. If you experience any of these symptoms or those listed in the IMPORTANT WARNING or SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS sections, stop taking varenicline and get medical help immediately:
  • swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, gums, eyes, neck, hands, arms, feet, ankles, or lower legs
  • hoarseness
  • difficulty swallowing or breathing
  • rash
  • swollen, red, peeling, or blistering skin
  • blisters in the mouth
  • pain, squeezing, or pressure in the chest
  • pain or discomfort in one or both arms, back, neck, jaw, or stomach
  • difficulty in moving your arms or legs
  • shortness of breath
  • sweating
  • nausea, vomiting, or lightheadedness
  • slow or difficult speech
  • weakness or numbness of an arm or leg, especially on one side of the body
Varenicline may cause other side effects. Call your doctor if you have any unusual problems while taking this medication.
If you experience a serious side effect, you or your doctor may send a report to the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program online [at MedWatch: The FDA Safety Information and Adverse Event Reporting Program] or by phone [1-800-332-1088].

What storage conditions are needed for this medicine?

Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Talk to your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication.

In case of emergency/overdose

In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.

What other information should I know?

Keep all appointments with your doctor.
Do not let anyone else take your medication. Ask your pharmacist any questions you have about refilling your prescription.
It is important for you to keep a written list of all of the prescription and nonprescription (over-the-counter) medicines you are taking, as well as any products such as vitamins, minerals, or other dietary supplements. You should bring this list with you each time you visit a doctor or if you are admitted to a hospital. It is also important information to carry with you in case of emergencies.

If you want to go the holistic route, look into accupuncture therapy. After my father died from lung cancer, 3 of my very close friends quit smoking this way. 2 treatments and they no longer had the need for nicotine. Just be realistic about it as well. You will probably always want to smoke when there are people around who are smoking. You need to remove yourself from that environment. Boredom is a killer. Having nothing to do but smoke means you will smoke. Just like now. Find something constructive to do besides lighting up.

Good luck.

When I quit smoking a few years back I just quit. I didn't use any medications or anything. Yes, it was a bitch, but it was worth it. There are lots of options for quitting out there, you just have to find what is right for you. I found nothing worked best for me.

WOW! Thanks for all the great advice guys.. Finally got back to the gym today.. and its been 2 days since my last cig... I still have a full pack staring at me, but I havnt caved.. yet

The hardest part for me is social drinking + social smoking go so well together, and thats going to be tough.. When i drink I tend to chain smoke.

I'd consider chantix but I always tell my doc i dont smoke because I tell my insurance company i dont smoke (its cheaper lol)

Does chantix reduce the cravings or does it make smoking nauseating?

reduce the cravings There are receptors for nicotine in your brain. When you smoke, the nicotine you inhale attaches to these receptors. This sends a message to a different part of your brain to release a chemical called dopamine. Dopamine gives you a feeling of pleasure. It targets nicotine receptors in the brain, attaches to them, and blocks nicotine from reaching them.

youre not going to quit until YOU want to. you control your life. not the cigarettes.

just quit 22 days ago.

You have to replace the cigs with something... for me it was steroids...

Knowing I won't be getting the full affects with cigs was an easy decision.

I hear cancer works for quitting...if you could have a friend pay a fake doctor to "examine" you and tell you you have a 1 in 3 chance of surviving, you'll never smoke another cig in your life.

This has worked 100% of the time for people I have known who smoked except it was never a fake doctor and only about 1 in 3 actually have made it. But seriously, maybe doctors should start giving false diagnoses to help people quit before it's for real.:winkfinger:

Well its only been 3 days right now and the cravings are a beast...

I was gonna go grab a couple drinks tonight, but I KNOW I will cave and smoke...

By far the biggest challange will be not smoking when drinking.. Plus i drinking alone i need to cut down on also..... What i wouldnt do for a beer and smoke right now!

I dipped Copenhagen for years. Smoked on occasion when I was drinking, usually cigars. It is a real addiction, and you will go through a withdrawl period. I used the gum and patches, but the toughest thing to quitting was the ritual behind the addiction. The medications have improved since I quit many years ago, but the fact is that you must commit to changing your habits. Smoking is a bitch to quit, because you associate it with so many behaviors. The key is to commit to a smoke-free life, and have people around you who support your decision. Good luck.

I heard this once and it makes sense imo, take it for what it's worth:

If you wake up and the first thing you think of is having your first cigarette: it's a chemical addiction.

If it's not your number one priority in the morning, it's an emotional addiction.

In otherwords, there's a difference between being addicted to the nicotine, and being addicted to the routine. For me, I'm just too used to the routine of driving to work and smoking. I had an hour and a half commute to work for 2 years. Now, I drive 1/2 mile and still light one up anyways. I don't go nuts if I don't have it, it's just the routine I want.

First thing I do in the morning is check IM...I must have an emotional addiction.

I am thinking of requesting that my IM bros negg me whenever I post on any day other than Thursday to keep me out of here...I need an IM intervention.

you need to replace cigs with something. Start doing cardio everyday.. you will quickly realize how smoking neg affects your cardio..

Only you can get your shit together.

I quit dipping 105 days ago, cold turkey. I still have yet to drink alcohol. I think I would cave if I did, but there will come a time when I can do it.

If you want to do it you can, but you have to make it a priority.

Get rid of everything that reminds you of it,or makes you think about it.When you feel like caving go for a brisk 1 1/2 mile walk, that worked for me very well.Another thing about the grazing, that will get you in BIG TROUBLE bro!!!Eat small meals every 2 hrs. 6 a day(high protien, medium carb, low fat).Drink 1 20 oz glass of water with meals and 1 between meals,I like crystal light flavoring. You should never feel hungry.I think you should stay completely away from sugar for awhile at least, as it causes uncontrolable urges.Be consistant with this and your weight training and you WILL be just fine!

Two factors will determine your success to throw well. They are:
Do - you stop smoking, to prevent the desire to create a strong will and should happen again.
State of mind - your understanding of the results on the effects of smoking and smoking cessation information, and in accordance with the plan, complete, and pay attention to face the facts.

im the same as a few outher folks. I chewed to quit smoking and I deffinitely had to stay out of the bar. the biggest help was my state of mind though. 100% health kick! in the gym, strick diet, supplemental regimen, reading mags and every thing. if you slip after a couple few days, the stink of that first smoke should be enough for you stop right away. good luck!

i'm going through the same i heard chantix is great but the dreams my doc said i wasn't a good candidate for it hmmm idk why lol
