I'm currently training for a body building competition (this is my first time) and my body fat is around 15/16% right now. Problem is, winter is upon us and I'm freezing all of the time.

Any suggestions on how to keep myself warm. I'm taking a product called Udo's Oil, which is a blend of omega fats. I was told this should help, but any other info is appreciated.

Keep your head, crotch, and hands covered. They're the biggest sources of heat loss.

Drink a warm liquid while you're out. This will help keep up your core body temperature.

and the feet...

I am covering all of those things. But I feel like the cold goes straight to my bones. I live in Toronto, Canada. The cold here has a piercing feeling, its even worse when you have little insulation. :op

Move ;) Or buy pocket warmers for your hands. They work great. Oh Nice Title under your name :thumb:

Buy one of those corn filled bags and nuke it in the microwave and then shove it in your jacket before you leave the house.

Get used to it and layer your clothes. I'm around 10% bodyfat right now and live in Alberta and I swear, I want to just hibernate for the winter. I get through by drinking a whole lot of tea and coffee (decaf). The best best it to layer clothes....or put on some body fat (which is obviously probably not an option...)

Chicago here--and the have the exact same problem. Constantly have a scarf on at work and a cup of green tea in front of me!

I live in Toronto too, and my hands turn blue all the time...it happens. you just have to learn to layer up.

Thanks for the advice everyone! Pretty much common sense. Just nice to know I'm not alone.

I have the same problem too, the temp dropped to the low 50's here and i'm freezing, actually had to throw on some pants

50's huh.....  Constant 70 degrees makes you SoCal people unable to handle heat or cold. :p

I get home from class at night and it's 32 degrees (freezing). My bro lives in SF and says that it gets colder here. A lady in my class moved from Orange County and she says that she can never get warm.

Is it true that cold weather brings out the most muscle? or in other words your body builds the most muscle in the winter when its cold out compared to the summer when it is warm?

That doesn´t make sense at all. Unless you are a bear and you lose the fat while hibernating. Although that bear would only be cutting.

:hmmm: It is not that bad in Toronto...yet. Methinks you are not dressing appropriately for the weather. Most important to dress in layers. If you are really cold coz you need to by outside for extended periods of time. Make sure you dress in Long Johns. Most peeps wear jackets but nothing other than regular underwear under their pants. This is inadequate esp on a cold windy day where the temp is likely to dip into the minus side of Celsius.

Remember COLD:

keep clothing CLEAN
avoid OVERHEATING (causes sweat)
wear clothing LOOSE and in LAYERS
keep clothing DRY

wear "wicking" fabrics like underarmour or polypropylene next to your skin, followed by fleece. High collared or turtleneck is a key and a hat. Even indoors a baseball cap will keep some heat in for you. You loose 60-70% of your heat from your head and neck area. Visit you local Dicks Sporting Goods or whatever you have in the area. Embrace the cold, it helps you burn more calories. By the way, drinking caffeniated teas and coffees do NOT help keep you warm. A study done by Natick Labratories and backed up by CREEL in NH (both renowned for their cold weather studies) showed that drinking warm beverages like coffee and tea did NOT warm you up. You would have to drink a beverage that was beyond a temperature that you could drink in order to raise the body temp at all. In fact, the caffeine caused dehydration, which is not good even in the winter as it robs the body of its ability to move blood to provide heat. Drinking coffe and tea only has a pyshcological response. Nothing real.

How far into your cutting phase are you?
During the first 6 - 8 weeks of a cut I find I am freezing all of the time eventually my body seemed to adapt, I would almost expect it to be the opposite with feeling the cold the leaner I got but for me it isn't the case.
I also use Udo's and still freeze my ass off every time I cut, you are so far the only other person I have heard express feeling cold, I remember asking some other competitors and they looked at me like I was completely mad!

I'm not cutting yet. My competition is a while down the road. This will be my first one so I'm trying to build up my lean muscle mass. I just came off of an "experimental" cutting phase about a month ago to see if I had the discipline (which I did...it was hell, but with the support of my bodybuilding boyfriend I made it through).

I'm a naturally cold person, but this is the leanest I've ever been and I think its just exaccerbating my problem.

You're not mad, its natural to be cold when you're cut. Low body fat = low insulation.

I had blood work done last year. Nothing showed up. My diet is excellent and I have a nutritionist that helps me with getting all of my nutrients, vitamins, etc. But thanks for the suggestion. I'll have it checked when I get my physical done next month.

Please say all my life that I would like to say that you should have figured out a way to keep yourself warm by now. :)

She is ignoring you
