Okay, I feel like I've completely screwed up my body's fluid retentive capacities by following an extremely low sodium diet for the past few months...now I'm retaining a lot of water and I'm experiencing the symptoms of sodium deficiency, which isn't much fun. How much sodium would you recommend I start adding to my diet to balance my electrolytes back out? IE, how much shoudl a bodybuilder be taking in daily?

Thanks a lot

Peace.

If you are drinking a lot of water an athlete can easily consume 3-4 grams of sodium a day. since many of us eat little processed foods we have to intentionaly use salt when cooking out foods, I often tend to forget this myself at times.

Good for the metabolism too because iodized salt is a good source of iodine which is often deficient in people who avoid salt altogether.

Thanks a lot guys. Really appreciate it. I'll shoot for 2-3g a day. Should I space sodium intake throughout the day, because cottage cheese before bed is actually pretty high sodium

Peace.

yes, a little sodium with each meal is best...

Thanks, LAM, you're the man.
I guess I should look for low-sodium CC again, because it's really pretty high in sodium. I don't see why salt has to be added to ALL commercial cottage cheese.

Peace.

Salt / Cottage Cheese

Premo ...... Is there such a thing as low salt / no fat cottage cheese? I recently bought some no fat cottage cheese and it had so much salt I couldn't barely eat it. Thanks !!

sodium is a great preservative, so some is added for that and a little more to increase the flavor...

Ive bought organic no sodium added 2% cottage cheese.. I actaully liked it better than the regular salty varietys.

CowPimp, you should be fine if you're eating foods that have sodium in them already. For me, my diet has been meat 5 meals a day with no seasonings, whole grains, veggies and protein powder PWO.

Peace.

crowley makes no salt added, 1% cottage...that's what I use.

When it's mixed with stuff you can't even taste it.

I can't stand cc by itself, though...even that kind.

I've never seen no salt added cc :( I love cc and would eat it alot more than once a day but I don't like all the sodium. I want some too.

Jodi, haven't you seen pressed, dry curd cottage cheese? The carb (lactose) count is much lower, there's a trace amount of fat, there's no salt added, and tastes basically the same to me

Peace.

Man... i always eat low sodium tuna now. A while back i ran out and just picked up some regular tuna. That stuff nearly made me vomit! Texture was just soooo different from what i was used to. :barf:
