Hello,
Ive been on a strict regimen for 6-1/2 weeks now. I have lost a lot of fat everywhere on my body accept on my belly...lol! I look like a skinny, toned guy with a pregnant protruding belly. Ive even lost some on my love-handles, but the belly is still protruding out as far as when I first started my diet 6 weeks ago.
Ive lost 14 pounds in 6 weeks which is right on target. Im just concerned on whether I will lose the belly fat pretty soon. Does the belly fat come off all of a sudden within a short amount of time, or will it gradually come off? Maybe 6 weeks is a bit premature in feeling concerned about belly fat. What is a normal average time that most people see the belly fat finally come off?
Thank you for your help ;o)

I can't put a time estimate on it but the belly fat will go eventually. Feel free to post your current diet if you'd like our opinion on it.

jonathan, feel free to create a thread for yourself if you'd like to do the same.

You can't spot reduce. And yea, six weeks is not time to judge much of anything. Half of the weight you loss was probably water. In any event, congratulations!

You must remember that you are trying to reverse what has probably been years of minute structural changes in the support tissue. And for many men, the gut is one of the last bastions for storage.

Yeah, all you can do is stick with it. For most people the lower abdominal region is the hardest section to lose weight from, including myself. As Merk said, You can not target fat loss.. but as far as the lower weight goes these are the only things I think are going to get it off the fastest.
1. Proper Diet - Do not eat alot of bulking foods ,while trying to drop stomach fat
2. Exercise - I do oblique twist, side crunches, twist crunches
3. Cardio - I prefer Sprints 1 time a day and Endurance 1 time a day. As many days as possible
Anyone have anything to add or change feel free, I'm learning through this post also..

As the posters noted, belly fat is often the last to go, and the hardest to get rid of.

One question: you note your belly is "protruding" like a "pregnant belly"

This may not just be fat, but also, your stomach just hanging out, if you were overweight for some time.

Agree with the other posts on hitting your obliques, side crunches, in addition to other core exercises.

Adding more muscles speeds up the rate at which you burn calories.

I actually disagree with the 'core exercises' idea. The exercises listed have little affect on the fat loss. Fat loss is a matter of sustaining a deficit through predominately diet while the training aspect allows the individual to hold onto the muscle mass that he possesses. Many more effective exercises exist that will elicit the necessary CNS stimulation etc. needed to achieve the goals associated with the OP's training.

Although it is true that muscle tissue is more metabolically active than fat tissue, the OP will be in deficit at this time, and therefore will not be adding any additional muscle mass.

The OP can increase core strength while cutting (the majority of this will probably be done isometrically through other exercises), but any sort of plans for increasing abdominal muscle mass should be reserved for if/when he decides to bulk.

Leg exercises do more for belly fat than leg raises do since abs are very small muscles.. You just have to keep with it.. doesnt help to add winny either lol
