Ok, simple question...I think :p

I have really been pushing the weights and I feel great and I am making great progress. BUT does soreness mean I am pushing too hard or does it mean I am making progress...or am I just silly :nut: and it is only the nature of the beast?

DAMN I AM GLAD I FOUND YOU GUYS!! :D

Muscle soreness (awareness) a day or 2 after a workout is not a sign of pushing yourself too hard or overtraining. Some people don't get sore after their first month of so of working out. I always try and shock my muscles to get them sore. If I don't have any soreness 2 days after a workout I feel like I didn't push myself hard enough. Although you don't have to get sore after a workout to make gains.

Thanks.

I was just wondering. I started working out in minimally in October of last year. I was sore a lot at first and then it eased up a bit. Then if February I moved from machine weights to free weights and I was soar again. That too subsided a little even though I still got sore occasionally. At the start of May I decided to get really serious about body building and once again I am feeling the burn so to speak LOL. I think I am pushing hard enough and making big progress in weight increments that I will continue to be sore...I guess eventually I will max out. I love being sore...if FEELS great!!!!

I am sore after EVERY workout!! If I am not sore then i almost feel like I have not worked hard enough. If you dont like being sore, try some glutamine, it should help you out a good bit bro

So does soreness mean you will make larger gains?... I dont get sore in my chest although i do get sore everywhere else and i work my chest the hardest... does this mean i should increase weight and/or increase reps?

No, soreness does not mean you will make larger gains. Using Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) is a bad way to judge the effectiveness of a training routine. DOMS usually doesn't set in for 24-48 hours and it should only last a day or two. If a body part is staying sore for long periods (like still sore the next time you go to work it), you have over did it. It can also be a sign of insufficient nutrition and rest. Some body parts get more sore than others and stay sore longer.

The effectiveness of a training routine needs to determined over a period of time not in a training session.
