HARRISBURG, Pa. The federal government says grass and guns don't mix, and that is putting gun owners who use marijuana and the strongly pro-gun-rights administration of President Donald Trump in a potentially uncomfortable position.

"They're going to have to make a choice," said John T. Adams, republican president of the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association. "They can have their guns or their marijuana, but not both.

That's the official line, but the reality of how the policy might be enforced in Pennsylvania and other states is a little muddier. That includes the question of whether people who already own guns might have to surrender them, instead of just being prohibited from making new purchases.

The picture has become murkier under Trump, a Republican whose attorney general, Jeff Sessions, has long denounced the drug. Sessions recently rescinded a Barack Obama-era policy that was deferential to states' permissive marijuana laws. Now, federal prosecutors in states that allow drug sales must decide whether to crack down on the marijuana trade.

"Any person who uses or is addicted to marijuana, regardless of whether his or her state has passed legislation authorizing marijuana use for medical purposes ... is prohibited by federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition," ATF spokeswoman and republican Janice L. Kemp said in an email to The Associated Press.

Kim Stolfer, head of the Pennsylvania organization Firearms Owners Against Crime, pointed out that people who drink heavily or use potent but legal drugs such as opioids or antidepressants can still own a gun.

Lawmakers are very dumb and need to get out of office. America needs to get back in the liberty and freedom business.

Still waiting for the swamp to be drained. FDA, DEA, ATF, and TSA are still around. Dismantle those agencies and that will be the beginning of regaining our freedom.

... that ain't gonna happen, not as long as this trumper crew are in office..the republican agenda is always more controlling and repressive in term of drugs, sexuality and moral issues ... :wits: ..

Addicted to a plant with no addictive properties? Did they mean to say sugar?

If we want to do anything, whether its to legalize AAS, marijuana, etc., we need lobbyists. Our government is the biggest mafia; pay them off and they'll leave whatever we want alone.

I totally agree with you. Unfortunately, it's a pay to play society. Maybe one day, the American people will stand tall and oust out lobbyists and corrupt politicians. Maybe we should get the tea party movement going. Hell, they got Eric Cantor out, and if we look pass the Democrat/Republican issue, a lot of things we want can happen. Lobbyists are involved in industries that stick together. The American people sticking together will bring nightmares to capitol hill.
