Hi, I'm 16 years old and have just begun working out. I'm extremely weak compared to others (112lbs!). For some reason, it's hard for me to gain mass. Recently I've begun working out with 20lbs. dumbells. I do roughly 12 lifts with the dumbells on each hand (4x), and then as many push ups as I can (20 or more at least), once a day. What am I doing wrong? Should my workouts be more intense? I'm barely gaining weight, so it's obvious that I'm not gaining muscle either. Any help would be great.

Although I am not a BB'ing expert, I am starting to see some nice results and hope I can give you some advice.

You can't do a few curls and pushups everyday and expect to gain significant amounts of muscle. You need to find a good routine and stick by it; one that lets you work each body part once a week and allows enough time to rest and heal. Do a search on the site to see examples of different routines that people are using to get you started. I use a slightly modified version of this routine, and find it to be great. Notice that each body part is only trained once a week, and every two days a day off is taken. This is to make sure that you are not putting too much stress on your body and overtraining.

But in addition to a nice routine, you need to eat a lot and have a large protein intake to gain mass. I went a while without seeing much gains, but once I increased my calorie intake, frequency of meals, and protein intake, I started to see significant results again.

I'm sure more people can give you more advice, and keep asking questions if you need help. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, I'll take a look at that routine. Any further suggestions would be extremely helpful.
