i had a freaky thing happen tonight

i was goin to max-out on bench and i had my dad to spot me and i did 190lbs then i bumped it up too 195lbs and i went down and couldn't get it back up and my dad tried to get it up and he couldn't then it was going back down and it was about 1" right above my neck and soo my dad brought it up about 5" and told me to crawl out from under it.....

right now my dad is in the garage building saftey things so next time i try i won't fuck up or whatever...

p.s have 2 well atleast 1 spotter w/you when maxing out on anything ..and make sure hey r able to get the damn weight up

I have not trained with a spotter in years. If I am going to do any form of squats, hvy benches or another press, I use a squat rack.

Looks like both of you should be weight training :bulb:

my dad is prolly too old to weight train..if not he wouldn't be able to do much..like i said b4 i don't live w/my dad or mom i live w/my grandparents so that would make my grandpa my dad and grandma my mom

if i'm benching close to my max i'll ask someone to watch me. if i'm squatting i just dump it

Next time you can kinda rest it on your chest and have your dad pull a couple of plates off real fast, then you can safely rack the weight. Both of you could get hurt if you try to squirm out from under a loaded bar.

Next time could you have your grandma/mom video tape the lift so all of us can enjoy it too?

But that's a good thing right? Didn't you the one who posted the thread about killing yourself?

That's one of the great attributes of dumbbells, just push them to the side.

When benching don't put the retainers on the ends of the bar. That way, if you find your self stuck, you can always, hopefully, tip the bar to the left or right and get rid of a plate or two. Expect that the bar will become weighted heavily to the high side of the bar and will react suddenly, when the change in the center of gravity occurs. Good luck.

Hey be careful bro, it has happened to me before and it can be some scary shit but usually i just get one side's plates off just be careful.

One time I was benching, not maxing though, and couldn't finish a rep...so I just set the bar lightly on my chest and rolled it down to my abs for a minute or two and chilled.....then I just pressed it and racked it. This was back when I was like 15 and couldn't bench a hundred pounds though heh.

I always bench (and train in general) alone and this is what I do. It's not like your muscles suddenly reach "empty" and have no power. Maybe I can't press the bar back up but I can sure as hell shrug it to the rack.

i remember benching like 275 and dropping the bitch on my chest it was like half way through the 8th rep my shit just gave and the bar slammed my chest. the gym came over and lifted it off. sucked but now i train with friends so it is cool.

one time i tried to max out with 140lbs on my bench and i got it half way up but when i get it off the crutches it is like half a rep so it got me tired when i started the rep and i could only get it half wayand i kept tryin but my arms gave away and i droped it on my chest rolled it down my abs and erey thang went smooth until i had to sit the weight down and i picked it up and slamed it on the bench and the solid bar with 140 lbs crushed my finger

Buy a pair of steel sawhorses. They're all the safety you need.

DITTO!!!

Don't be a pussy dude. You don't need a fucking spotter, just roll the weight off. It'll toughen you up.

i hit 205 for a power clean, and jerked it up (my form is horrible on these) but for some reason i couldn't control it and it went too far in front me so i dumped 205 from pretty much overhead, fun as shit but the floor trainer came up to me and started lecturing me. all i said was "i wanna see you clean and jerk that weight and then gently put it down" lol

 you've been talking to Pat too much ;)

You should always wait several minutes in between 1RM attempts. There is no way that you should've been able to put up 190, then not have enough strength to perform a spot-assisted 195.

I don't use spotters. They are all too fucking retarded to spot properly. If I do a 1RM attempt then I will either go in the power rack, dump the plates (I don't use collars for bench), or do a situp with the weight on me.

LMAO...that is funny as shit that you just threw it down. hahahaha.

Contrary to what many people say, rolling the bar off of you when pinned down on a bench press builds lots of strength and character.:thumb:

i never have a spotter and have tried to add just one more small plate to no availe... i NEVER use collars on bench so if that hapopens i can dump the weighIt did bother me the first time i did it, after finishing the workout i went back inside the house and my wife asked what that loud noise was out back?! i was like damn you heard that and didnt come to check on me?!?! "i have alot of life insurance)

You had a spotter and still almost got your face smashed, what if gramps had dropped it while your head was half through?

That's ok though, would have prepared you for the day when you learn why Skull Crushers are called Skull Crushers.

is that one rep max an ego thing? i have never attempted a one rep max. i lift to get stronger and if i am pushing more weight than i did a month ago then i know i am getting stronger. use one of the one rep max calc. if u need a number to tell your friends

Your Dad is how old???? My guess is 50 something and you think thats old....wow.
