I don`t work them because I don`t want to increase my waist size.I`ve experienced no problems thus far. I think they get worked indirectly in other movements that require stabilizing and keeping the torso upright.
Of course I work them...they are no different from any other muscle...as bodybuilders the goal is symmetry and COMPLETE development....therefore working the obliques for maximum development and striations is a MUST!

Jemal...not true...what we try to do is avoid doing heavy lifting for them to avoid added bulk...it's still important to work them...just w/o a lot of weight and higher reps.
