Ok so i have been counting calories for the last week or so and ive run upon something i want to make sure of.When i eat anything canned , boxed ,etc , and say the item has "200" calories , but the container says "servings per container about 3" does this mean if eat eat the whole containers worth ill be getting 600 calories or "about" 600 calories? Its really just a common sense question but i just wanna make sure , im not afraid to ask , also the same with protein?

200 calories.

The "per serving" figure is often a joke, unless it specifically states "calories per serving".

You'll also see "calories per 100 grams", especially in European foods.

Often labels will claim 4 or 5 "servings" of something that in truth you'll eat the lot of in one hit all by yourself (unless you want to leave the packet open to go stale).

??? 200

If the package says 200 a serving, multiply that times the number of servings you ate. You estimate but its close. Am I missing something here?? why is the answer not 600 for his whole container of 3 servings at 200 calories a serving??

Kinda like people didnt know they were drinking two or three servings of coke in one can or bottle.

Yes, calories are always listed per serving.

Anyone that makes anything in a box or can or anything wants to keep the calories lower than 300 so they split it into parts and do calories per serving.

So yes, if the calories are 200 and there are 3 servings, you will eat 600 calories if you eat it all.

You will find most things in a box or can will be higher in calories than produce that is more 'natural'

The processing process often adds massive amounts of sugar... which makes it taste better but also boosts the calories.

Every package I have ever seen breaks calories down to calories per serving... that is just smart advertising.

You can sell something that is 1000 calories and put a big "200 calories per serving" across the box.... then when you read the label, it says that it is 5 servings.

You'll never see a packaged pizza that says, "2000 calories"

Why would they do that when they can break it up into servings and make it seem better to the people that are retarded and can't do math or think?

of course. Like how i was disappointed that my whole tostinos pizza only had 700 calories. hehe

Thats exactly what I was saying - IF it sez 200 calories then its 200 calories but if it specifically sez 200 PER SERVING then sure, multiply by the number of servings.

Yes, calories are always listed per serving

Or per packet, per 100 grams etc.

When I said the "servings" were a joke I was indeed referring to such silliness as a can of soda being "2 servings" for example, for no-one is gonna drink half and leave the other half until tomorrow.

Jeez.

My empthasis.

OK, new approach - if it sez 3 servings per container and the container has 3 items, and the box gives calories per serving then multiply by 3, if you eat all 3 of them.

There ya go.

Ok thanks for the info guys. Like i said it is a common sense question but i was just wanting to make sure.So im guessing its the same way with protein. If the box says 5 grams protein and 3 servings per container ill get 15 grams protein from that boxed food.If the container says calories per serving 200 , with "about" 3 servings in the box then ill just round it to 450 or 500 calories to be safe. Same with protein

Also , when trying to gain weight do i need to stay away from drinking lots of water?? because besides milk , thats really all i drink.I pick up a sprite every now and then but hardly ever.Do you think i should start drinking tea in place of water or soda or what? Please let me know. thanks for all the info.

Why would you want to reduce water? If you're trying to gain weight you need more water, not less.

Bloating, if that's what you're nervous of, is often a result of not enough water, causing your body to store it. You need water for every step of growth, so drink plenty (but cut out the Sprite)

Ha i didnt say i wanted to cut it out , i asked if i should. But i guess i shouldnt haha.Alrighty ill keep chugging the stuff like i do , but cut out he sprite? Dang that was an extra 140 calories for every one i drank haha.Bad caloriess though i assume. But ok i just thought the more water the more calories your body will burn and im trying to "store" them and gain weight.I dont know to to much about this stuff , it never hurts to ask but thank you for your information.
