P/RR/Shock routine - critique please

I'm getting great results on the Basic PRRS program doing only 8 work sets per body part.

I don't think Jugg was making an attack on Eric himself here, regardless of what's gone on in the past - he just said the program was crap. People will read whatever sub-text they want into it, but he didn't actually mention Eric at all, or swear, hurl insults or anything. I say pro-bodybuilder's programs are shit all the time, and nobody bats an eyelid. Same deal, surely?

For the record, i've used PRRS once or twice and saw good gains from it. Im not a huge fan of the program, but i do think it's a great example of what a well periodized program can do.

I honestly don't know how you've kept this guy around. :banned:

Ahhh, variety is the spice of life, Eric - and Juggie's not the only person on this forum your statement could address. ;)

Regarding P/RR/S: One man's meat is another man's poison. If you look at the body through a very simple lens, there are only six main movement patterns: horizontal pushing and pulling, vertical pushing and pulling, hamstring dominant movements and quad dominant movements.

Combine these with the two principal muscle types (fast and slow) and training intensities (strength and endurance), three main energy systems (phosphagen (ATP-CP), glycolytic, oxidative) and states of energy balance (below, at or above maintenance) and there's really not much left but to vary the rep ranges.

It all works. None of it works forever.

I've grown rather fond of Juggernaut. He speaks his mind, even when he knows he'll get spanked for it. You have to either be brave or an idiot to do that consistently. Juggie seems to relish flipping back and forth between the two for our entertainment. ;)

I thought the title of the thread was asking for critique? Juggs put in his 2 cents, didn't get personal in any way, got jumped for speaking his mind, then got bashed.

Lesson is don't speak your mind if it may go against the grain?

If I came on here asking for a critique on a workout or cycle that someone put together for me, I would certainly hope that you all would chime in with what you thought. I believe that's what the OP had in mind.

Disclaimer: Not bashing the program. Never used it, and would love to give it a try.

it's interesting that I haven't badmouthed your character in this thread at all. You and Prince decided to bash me and that's fine. I can obviously give it as well as I can take it.

But I digress; I still think the system was crap for me, and the thread did ask for criticism.

Well from all that... im just going to try this and see how it works out. It sure as hell is better than what im doing now so it will be better for me. Ill comment on this back in a few months to show how its gone.
For those who helped, thanks...for those who didn't, you've wasted your own time.

Thanks Elson...keep me posted. I hope PRRS works for you as well as it has for so many others. Just remember that you need to work the program hard and consistently, and that the principles are more important than the exact exercises used.

Good luck!! :thumb:

And this is why PRRS works so well, because it addresses all of the mechanisms that affect the anabolic process. However, there is more than varying rep ranges...there is rep speed, changes in grips and planes of motion (which affects motor unit patterns in unique manners), rest between sets, intensity techniques, different rep patterns, and more. And yes, all of these things will positively and uniquely affect hypertrophy. Nothing works forever, but if you continually change what you do, then you CAN continue to progress indefinitely.

As for you being fond of Juggernaut, well...you better be when looking at his sig. He breathes you. :daydream:

I appreciate what you are saying but here are my thoughts...

1-The original poster was not asking for a critique of PRRS, but in the way he was implementing it. There is a difference. Jugg could have helped him improve upon the program with suggestions about exercises, body part splits, or whatever. I do this all the time with posts, IM's and emails that have nothing to do with PRRS.

2-There is a mature way to say things, and then there is a way that is a result of PERSONAL DISLIKE. Good example...there is someone in this industry who also has a VERY popular training program that has been discussed on this board many times. I tried the system myself and did not like it very much. However, when I get questions about it I do not bash the program...why? Well, just because it did not work for ME does not mean the program is "crap" or poor, especially because I know that thousands of people feel that it works great for them. Thus, if someone asks me about it all I will say is..."it did not work well for me, but so many people like it that you should certainly give it a fair try yourself!"

THAT is the difference between being a mature adult and what juggernaut presents when anything is regarding me or my opinions, programs, etc. :thumb:
