. .all I can say is when running a modified paleo, with modified including postWO sugars such as dextrose, some milk, I actually feel great on a cut and get results.

. . when compared to Lyles diets, I just feel shitty, albiet with results as well but at a cost to cognitive abilities at work. To be honest I still dont think I have had Lyles diets dialled in properly, but it just doesnt feel natural.

I have a scientific background, and both regimes have their logic. I'm leaning towards incorporating aspects of both to see what happens, such as paleo with refeeds, keeping fruit more to a minimum than previous and perhaps with a greater fat content. The alkalinity balance should be adhered to, as with restricting saturated fats. Omega 3's dominant.

Does my logic make sense? Flaws in my rational? Built?

How would you work the refeed? I'm not sure you could get enough carbs to hit your target eating paleo foods. You really do need things like white rice, white bread, etc.. to be able to get enough carbs in.

Red/sweet potatoes are the answer. They're alkalinic and can be used for refeeds.

OP, I have used Paleo when training 25-30 hours a week for MMA and the main thing is to adjust the diet to your needs. I actually have a slightly different philosophy when it comes to saturated fats in that I actually make sure to get in a good amount (40-50g) each day with my main sources being coconut oil, egg yolks, and center cut bacon. I have 2 servings of fruit with breakfast, 1 before training, and 1 after training. I have 4-5 servings of veggies scattered throughout the day as well.

Sweet potatoes was my answer too. The initial load could also use limited use of fruit with dextrose, maybe some milk but then plenty of sweet potato. Raisins are highly alkaline, interestingly enough.

Coconut oil and egg yolks are also my major fat sources as well.

This is going to sound odd to most, but I have felt myself in a more aggressive state via sat fats as opposed to Test E. My fat intake consists solely of EVCO, egg yolks, 93% ground beef, center cut bacon, and the odd gram from chicken and nuts.

My Paleo tweak consists of using whey/casein based proteins; I figure that these do more harm than good in terms of recovery.

Interesting discussion. I feel like crap on Lyle''s diets too - I always have to tweak them with more fats on the low days and less carb on the high days. I'm also VERY sensitive to fructose, so I really limit fruit and anything sweetened with ordinary sugar. I make kheer with white rice, coconut milk and dextrose for my carbups (which is too high in fat according to Teh Lyle but there you have it) and that seems to work well. Where's white rice on the alkalinity scale?

Slightly acidic, but not nearly as high as brown rice.

So to clarify what you are doing - are you strictly cutting or are you doing UD2 but going more low on the carbs than Lyle recommends? If it's the latter, do you go lower than his recommended carb value during the carb load too? And you compensate the caloric difference with mono/poly fat? Or do you follow his recommended carb value but just use paleo carb sources? Sorry, a bit confused.

Could you expand on the definition and importance of "alkalinity balance"? Never heard of that before.

Check out the link in my other post in this thread. Berardi talks about pH balance and its role in overall health.
