So yesterday i hit a new pb on my over head DB presses
92lb (42kg) for 4 reps. Todayi'm payin for it, my left elbow is killin  It was either the w8 or the bad spot on the last of my 3 forced reps.....
Lets hear some injury stories bad and not so bad and do you think its worth it. :hmmm:
Personally its a risk i'm willing to take :D Definately worth it :thumb:

if u go to the gym saying am going to get a injury.. you will never get PB b?/ u wont lift any heavy weights.. that my o/p

It is absolutely NOT worth getting injured. I don't even know why that's a question? :hmmm:

There is NO risk to take as long as you are doing everything appropriately.

Think about it :bulb: ....if you get injured, all your hard work goes down the :toilet: . You have to take time off. You lose alot. You gain fat. Who knows if your injured bp will ever be the same.

3 forced reps? :hmmm:

That which does not kill me, only makes me stronger!!! BUT, in a sensible way!!! :thumb:

I've had to set out with a screwed up bicep for what seems like forever. DON'T risk injury. I lost all those gains and time. Now I feel like a 215# weakling and this sucks!!!

Don't do it.

i have never been injured, ever. And i go as heavy as possible. Although im pretty good a guaging my limits. Im confused on the "taking risks" thing. There should be no risk taking when it comes to lifting heavy objects IMO.

I don't know why people would even consider risking injury. Am i missing something?

No, your not.

Those that would consider an injury havent had one! I just tore a muscle in my back, and let me tell you.. IT FUCKING HURTS! And the whole left side of my back is turning purple.. now I am out 3 weeks. Why? because I went heavy and risked it.

I see this question as "Should I over train?" and wonder if you see it the same way saber?

3 forced reps? :hmmm:
my thoughts too. Can you claim PB if you're spotted and the spotter has to particpate?

It's not worth it Pete!!! Look at me, I have to always be careful and taking time off of lifting because a few years ago I thought it "was worth it". I certainly don't now. Take care of that elbow and don't push it!!!

Yeah, because there is no "I" in Team Weight Lifting!

No question about it. Nothing that hasn't been said already.

There's nothing wrong with going heavy, just make sure you do it right. There's always a risk of injury, even if you do everything right.

I think you guys are misreading his question. Either that or I am.

What I got from his question was, "Is lifting weights worth the risk of a potential injury?" To that I'd definitely have to say yes. I've injured myself lifting before. Everyone who's lifted for a few years has. Even with perfect form, shit happens. I'd still never give up lifting over the risk of potential injury. Every time you get in your car and drive you're risking a potential accident.

If the meaning of his question was in fact, "Is it worth the risk to lift super-heavy weights you're not use to?" then I'd have to answer no.

I guess the question needs more clarification.

Yeah thats more like i meant EA.... I have been training for 2 1/2 yrs now and the only thing i have had happen was a sore lower back from some big deads and now my elbow is sore, its not a bad injury, i imagine i wont even feel it in 2 days time....
I'm not talking about goin stupid and expecting it, sometimes shit happens and if you lift really heavy there is alot of "abnormal" stresses put on the body and joints.

So you think everytime i pick up 250kg for my deadlifts i'm at "NO risk" even if i am "doing everything appropriately".....
I think not..... but thats a risk i'm willing to take.....

I guess I am luck I didn't get hurt because I was sqauting and going heavy and I couldn't go up and my spotters three guys couldn't carry the weight 300 pounds.Luckly I was squating in a rack or I would have been f^cked up.I was mad at my spoters cuz they couldn't spot me.

Um, no.

As long as you are doing everything appropriately, there should be no problems, simple as that.

What about when i squat 180kg and am getting near failure, i sorry but you just cant guarentee that 1 minor thing might happen and then with that w8....
I remember GP was doing SLDL and popped his hammie, he said it wasn't all that heavy, his form was the same as always (which i imagine for him would be spot on...) And 'bang' his hamstring let go.
I don't think it's that simple and we may just have to agree to disagree :)

Of course there's always a CHANCE of injury during lifting, whether you're warming up with those monster 2.5lb plates or squatting your heaviest. If that's the case, i mos. def. think BB is worth the risk of injury.

But like i said, you should never compromise a injury for a few more lbs on a lift. If you do, could be time off for a while, and may never be teh same.

Like i said, there's ALWAYS chance of an injury, if so, then i say BB is 100% worth hit.

but read my last post, i think you'll understand better ;)

Thats what i was sayin.... sorry i wasn't so clear ;)
My pb for presses was time to go up the w8 and i think it was a bad spot that hurt anyway. I, like you, are a stickler for top form :D

That some heavy shoulder presses. Unfortunately I can't do 90's because my left arm is too weak. My right shoulder can get a 90 up and rep it a couple times, but my left shoulder cant even get it up. :(
