I know we all eat a lot of (hard boiled) eggs around here, right?

Am I the only one that practically goes crazy trying to peel them? I mean, the shell cracks into hundreds of pieces, and then when I try to peel it off, part of the egg comes off and ugh!

Any secrets to this? Am I letting them cook too long when I boil them or something?

Help me.

When they're done cooking, run them under cold water or put them in ice water. Wait till they cool before peeling them...I never have a problem w/ them :)

Hey w8, I do that. Today I was attempting to peel the eggs the next day after I boiled them. I boiled them at about 8pm last night and was trying to peel them a few hours ago.

...maybe I haven't been letting them sit in the cold water long enough..

Thanks.

The fresher the eggs are the harder they are to peel. Buy them a week ahead, then boil them and they will peel easily. This allows the membrane between the shell and the egg to separate from the egg.

Hard Boiled Egg instructions:

1.) After you buy eggs let them sit in fridge for a few days.
2.) Put eggs in cold water, put on burner, turn heat to high.
3.) As soon as water reaches boiling point, turn down heat so they are at a "calm boil" (just little bubbles).
4.) Set timer for 12 minutes right when water reaches the boiling point.
5.) When timer goes off, immediately run cold water in pan, dump out and repeat until water is cool.
6.) Let them sit for around 20 minutes, then put them in the fridge.

I have never heard this. I am a little freaky about eating food that is spoiled...are you sure letting eggs sit for a week is a good idea?

Wow! I've never seen such specific directions before. I will try this tommorow night. I see that you also recommend letting them sit in the fridge for a few days, just like Shmoo said. Mmmm....

If you follow my instructions they should be perfect. It is true that if the eggs are very fresh they will not peel well, thus let them sit a few days. Only letting them cook for 12 minutes is also important, so set the timer and cool them off. If you do not cool them they will continue to cook.

Good luck! :)

I personally like my eggs boiled for 15 mins. but the part about using eggs that have been in the fridge for a few days is right on.

Yeah, well I`ve gotta asume that she`s having no trouble actually eating them.....probably doesn`t chew 36 times though.:p

kuso, just when I was worried about you...hadn't seen you around in a few days. Then you pop up here pornal as ever!

Glad to see you around. :)

Miss LeDix,

Oh yea I know what you mean. What I do and it seems to work all the time. I used to not cook them long enough and then it was a nightmare to peel them. Now when I think they are done I cook them a little longer, and then I turn the fire off (gas stove) and let them sit in the boiling hot water. I never have any problems anymore.

Hope that helps. :)

Oh boy...what did I start here???

Although there is some conflicting information going on here. Most have said to put the eggs in cold water as soon as they are done cooking...but then craig said to let them sit in the hot water.

Who knew eggs could be so interesting? :)

Question for everyone. How long do you think your eggs have already sat in a refrigerated space before you bought them? Likely several days. So the theory of letting them sit in YOUR refrigerator is bunk. Try putting a little oil in the water when you boil them. Also, crack the shell around the equator only rather than all over. This will help alot.

I don`t know if you have best before dates on the side of the egg cartons in the US but here in Canada we do. On really fresh eggs the best before date can be 5-6 weeks and a real bitch to peel. Their easier to peel when under 4 weeks so letting them sit until then isn`t bunk for me. :headbang:

just follow my instructions. :headbang:

Eggs are an emotional topic. I love it!

Next topic...what is up with cottage cheese?

ewwww now cottage cheese to me is just so gross :barf:

I can eat alot of diff food but that is just one that makes my stomach turn just thinking about it.

Gosh kuso, that's toe jam!

But really, I have developed a liking for cottage cheese. But it has to be Friendship brand. I've tried other brands, and they're just plain not as good.
