I have always been fit, I used to play a lot of sport, but I have never been visibly fit. My body is quite skinny, but I have developed slight love handles and a slight beer belly.

What I want to to is get rid of the fat from my belly and hips, and just tone up, I don't want to get massive, I just wanna get into shape.

What should I eat? And when should I eat? Also I work night's, which really messes up my eating pattern.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

its not like i know even close to as much as a lot of these people know...but i have learned theres no such thing as toning :)...and that about maxes out what i know..lol

Thug.... first how old are you , how much do you weigh, how tall, any pics possibly?

If your just looking to get into shape, and not become massive, your still going to want to put on some muscle, even if its a minimal amount. The more muscle you have on your body, the more calories you will burn naturally. It doesnt have to be a lot of muscle, maybe just 5 or 10 lbs, but that would make all the difference in the world, if you could replace the few little lbs of fat on your waist with maybe 5 lbs of lean muscle on the rest of your physique.

First you need to tell us what you eat, what your daily eating habits are, and how often you eat. You are going to want to eat 4 to 5 small meals a day. How much you eat depends on what you weigh right now, and if you want to gain or lose weight.

Working nights shouldnt be much of a problem. You can still eat healthy choices throughout whenever you eat your meals. Try to remeber to eat something small every 3 to 4 hours. Maybe no more than a snack like fruit or a powerbar, or something like that, but something is better than nothing.

You also may want to invest in some protein powder. Try having a shake a day, and if you can afford it, two is even better. Try mixing it with some skim milk and a banana for a healthy meal, if you dont feel like preparing something. Fruits and vegtables are things you can pretty much eat whenever you want. They are a good source of vitamins and antioxidants, and contain little or no fat. Fruits do have sugar (fructose) and carbs, but as long as you dont eat 10 apples a day, the benefits far outweigh anything. ]

You will want to avoid certain foods. Anything high in fat and calories, things like hamburgers, hotdogs, pizza, things that are high in carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are energy soucres for the body, and you need a certain amount of carbs a day for energy. Same thing with calories.

The thing is, if you dont use those carbs and calories, they usually get stored as fat. So the kind of carbs you want are the ones that burn slowly, like oatmeal, yams, vegtables, whole grains, things like that. They burn slowly in the body, and dont add as much bodyfat as something like a candybar, which is pure sugar, and will give you fast energy, but will dropoff and youll feel worse, and hungry for more, faster.

So post your stats, and what you eat, and we'll go from there.

The basic Idea is to clean up your diet, eat smaller meals more frequently, and avoid alcohol as much as possible.

Also, start an exercise program. Whether its running, or basketball, or lifting weights, doing activities will help get you into shape, and help you lose fat faster than diet alone.

Right here goes.

I am 19 years old

5'9'

150lbs

My diet consists of

breakfast - cereal or toast

dinner - sandwiches, chocolate bar and crisps

main meal - varies obviously from day to day, sometimes something quick like chips and sausage, or a proper meal such as pork or chicken with all the trimmings

snacks - fruit, crisps, cereal, chocolate, pot noodles

I also drink about 3/4 litres of water a day

The exercises I do at the moment are a strength workout one day with the weights, then the next day I do a 30 minute jog.

My aim is to lose the 'puppy fat' I have, and then to tone up all over.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, well the first problem I see is your diet. Sausage and chips? WHooo.. never heard of that combo b4 :finger: , but foods like that arent going to do anything for your body.

First I'd recommend eliminating all the salty and sweet snack kinds of foods you eat. No chips, or sausage, those are just two foods that will do nothing for you. Try to stick with things like fruits, vegtables, occasional pork is ok, but not on a daily basis. Pot of noodles isnt too bad either, used in moderation. And try to eat more often. 2 or 3 meals will not help you lose bodyfat fast, rather it will probably slow your fat loss down.

Try eating 5 small meals a day. Do a search on on this website for the calorie counter, to figure out exactly how many calories you need to maintain your bodyweight and put on lean muslce.

You being only 150 lbs, I wouldnt worry to much, but Id estimate you probably want to eat about 150 to 200 grams of protein a day, and maybe 150 to 200 grams of carbs a day, split evenly into 4 or 5 meals.

Also, get more into weightlifting. You dont have to get huge, but putting on 5 or 10 lbs of muscle will do you wonders.

Any more questions.. feel free to ask.

Your not too heavy, not too light, but you do eat some garbage there.

I'd hitup the diet forum, do some kind of workout, I honestly dont think it would take much to get you "cleaned up."

LOL sausage and chips

are you from England?

coz chips in English means fries, and crisps means chips

I couldn't see anyone eating sausages with a bag of crisps, thats just wrong

my advice is get fit first, lose the fat!

I've been working out for 3 years with weights, not done a lot of fitness and I've still got fat round my hips, bottom and legs!

my uppoer body has no fat on it, all the muscle keeps the fat off, but on the areas I don't train it has stayed on (like you i still have puppy fat on me)

now I've given up almoast on getting any bigger till the fat is gone, I mean i'm a 6ft3 ectomorph, I can't carry fat and get away with it

good luck, train hard eat well you'll get results

Looking at your diet, i would say there is plenty of room for improvement. I think you could gain muscle and mass by still loosing body fat because the food you are eating now is junk now if you were to switch it up a little by adding in clean foods you would see a big difference.

The easy thing to do in this instance would be to strip all of what you eat and replace it straight away but we can't promise if you would stick to that as it would be one big change in your diet. So the best thing to do in these situations is introduce foods at a slow process so that your body has time to adapt to them making it easy on yourself.

When introducing certain products/foods, at the same time we would replace and take out foods that are already in your diet, and by doing this process for a few week or months we hopefully would get you a diet in which you have adapted to yourself. The important thing to remember is be patient with your goals as it takes time for results to come.

I will send you a pm of sample diet plan, it will give you an idea of what to do.

Good luck!:)
