I have been hurting my elbows while doing preacher curls. Hurts in the joints.

While doing preachers curls do i sit almost over bar so my chest is flat against the pad and pad is "locked" in my arm pits??

help is required.

I've went through the same problem. The pain occured when lowering the weight, not so much in pulling it up. I laid off the preacher curls for a while and did dumbell curls using very strict form, keeping my elbows tucked tight to my side. I also found the pain started when working my arms and back on the same day. Chins, seated rows and dumbell rows also aggravated the problem. It will take some time but lay off the preacher curls and dont do biceps and back on the same day if that is what you are doing. Does the pain shoot into your forearms?

It goes into my forearms, somewhat.

I was back at the gym since a 2 month lay off.

I agree, lay off the preacher curls for a while bro and do an alternitive exercise to give your joints a break.

It also might be your form, since I'm not there, I can't really say. Bu this site will help you determine wether it's your form or not:

Click on.......barbell preacher curl in the arm section. It will give you instructions and an animated demonstration of the lift so you can compare.

If you build it they will come

Rob, The longer I stayed with the preacher curls, the pain started to get worse extending into my forearms. You may get some better advice, but I would say stay off the Preacher curls. It started to effect all my lifts. I'd just do maintenance on the arms till the elbow heals up. I even took two weeks off. Good Luck! Large and in Charge, Nice site reccomendation.

Thanx for the advice, I'm going to give the preachers curl a break.

That site was excellent have made a FAV.

Going to use hammer curls (are they likely to aggravate injury)

I've never had any pain doing them but my training partner has the same problem you do.
He does single arm preacher curls with dumbells now and doen't seem to have the pain.

Could be worth trying.

Just another day in the gutter

Im going to try one arm preacher curls next bicep day and see how it goes.

Thanks for the help.

I have the same problem. I started doing spider curls. This allowed me to get my arm further down the pad so my elbow was past the edge of the pad. It was the contact with the pad while lowering that bothered me.

I used to have the same problem with preacher curls hurting my arms. I found that by moving my grip either wider or closer helped alot too. if you cant do that do the one arm preacher curls.

You get what you put in.

I agree with HickeyNC, Move your grip in or out. I have joint pain all the time, part of the game.

I don't do preacher curls they hurt alot, especially after. I never really liked doing em anyways. I got alot better results by doing standing curls with bars u know? One day during football conditioning our coach got mad at us for doing preachers cuz they don't do anything ( i think ) But thats just my oponion
