When doing preacher curls, do you ppl use a barbell or dumbell to perform this exercise? Also, I can't seem to lift a single dumbbell for Preacher Curls as heavy as the ones I use in hammer curls, why is that so?

I do preachers with a dumbbell. EZ bars hurt my wrists and elbows. As far as hammer curls go mine are much stronger than preacher curls or even standard standing alternate dumbbell curls.

When i do preacher curls i use the EZ curl bar. It bothers my wrists when i use the straight BB. It is more along the lines of personal preference i think. With the EZ bar you can vary your grip and move your grip in and out and change the position of your hands.

When you are doing the one arm preacher curls, your are pretty much restricting the movement to just your bicep. you cant cheat at all. Therefore you will not be able to handle the weight.

I've used a straight barbell, the EZ bar, dumbells, machines, and a cable. They're all good. I vary the bars to keep my workouts different.

EZ curl bar for me, Dumbells are fine to.
Muscles

Preacher Curl Target muscle:
Brachialis

Hammer Curl Target muscle:
Brachioradialis

Hammer curls are more of a forearm exercise and have more stabalizer muscles involved so that's probably why you can do more weight.
