Is it good to do barbell bench press and dumbell bench press in the same work out?? or should they be done on separate work outs??

My chest days are Mon and Thurs and right now i just do the barbell bench press and cables.

no problem with doing both in the same workout.

why are you training your chest twice a week?

sure you can but i think it'd be more optimal to do one incline and one flat.. currently i do db flat and bb incline.. few weeks ago i did the reverse

If your doing both barbell and DB flats, it is redundant. You should do one or the other and which ever you choose do the opposite for Inclines if you prefer.

I used to like to do flat barbell and incline dumbell, same day. Now I just do barbell for the base stuff.

I really mix it up. I'll do DB flats with DB inclines; next workout Straight Bar flats and inclines. Then maybe DB flats and Straight bar inclines then Straight bar flats and DB inclines. wheeew that was a mouthful.

Right now I just do barbell press, but some of my friends do both on the same work out. Like barbell flat and incline and db flat and incline. So I was just curious about it. I like Barabell much better than db.

What about barbell decline?? Ive heard different things about it

I do barbell incline and barbell decline, then pec deck, nothing else. It is working great for me, never looked this good.

I start with incline for 7 sets, do 4 sets for decline, and then 2 sets on the 'deck.

I like using dumbbell motions to shock my chest.. I alternate dumbbell and barbell workouts everymonth.

Mudge, are you a trainer? You give some pretty damn good advice...

Honestly, I started posting here... like ... i don't know like maybe 3-4 weeks ago... I've mainly taken your and Vanity's advice... but the point is, I'm making excellent lean mass gains like never before in my life... true, I've taken a much more serious approach then I ever did, but I just hope other less knowledgable people here can benefit from your posts as well...

No, actually I am not, but I have been looking at getting certified at some point.

I started working out 16 years ago, but I have no problems admitting I dont know it all, because I dont!

It's a machine that Mudge seems to like but I don't because I think it puts too much pressure on the shoulders and rotator cuffs. Seen lots of folks get hurt on them.

Mudge : you should get certified. Personal trainers are babe magnets.

Mudge is right, he doesn't know it all. How can he? If you look at his avatar 3/4's of his head is missing.

:rocker:

then you are seriously limiting your chest's potential.

so kind sir wut do u suggest i do to maximize my chest's potential

The one I use has hand grips as opposed to what you posted, but honestly with slow reps I have no shoulder problems, at least not yet ;)

*barbell chest press is the king of chest exercises.

*dumbell chest presses are great too.

*dumbell flys.

*Dips.

*cable crossovers.

If you're serious about your chest you have to incorporate these moves into your workouts.

well for chest i do
*weighted dips (since im kinda light)
*flat bench
*incline bench
*decline bench
*dumbell fly's ,decline d/b fly's or peck dec once and a while cable crossovers.
i only do one shaper on chest day i choose for those exercises

Jay B: I misunderstood what you said. I thought you meant the only chest exercise you did was the pec dec.

I thought that too, when I first read it.

Cool new avatar Vanity!

I usually do flat bb bench, then incline bb bench, then incline flies.
If it's a low energy day just flat bb bench and incline flies.
Then switch it up every couple months and do the incline bench and the flat flies.
I believe you need to do both incline and flat, so if you are only doing 1 barbell and 1 dumbell then one should be flat, the other incline.
I like flies better than pec dec, flies can be rough on the shoulders so warm up with a light weight and use good form for 8-16 reps, keep the low rep, heavy stuff for bb flat, IMHO

I'm not crazy about the Pec Dec either when used in the normal fashion, forearms elbows agains the pads. I very much prefer grasping the pads with my hands and arms totally parallel as you would do with flies. Unlike flies, at the top of the movement the stress is momentarily taken off the pec if you go dumbell to dumbell. With the Pec Dec, the stress on the pecs are present throughout the entire range of motion. I love them. Also, no matter how heavy I go using this grip, I've yet to suffer any shoulder stress whatsoever and I'm just coming off a horrific rotator cuff injury. If they don't bother my shoulder then they won't bother anyones.

That is how my machine is, you grab it with your hands. It also is free for your arm length, very nice.

I am going to have to agree with Mudge...the pec deck is great for defining your "cleveage". But you have to use the kind he posted. I myself do flat , incline, and decline bench, usually with bb but sometime I will switch one up with db or hammer strenght. I also throw in either dips, cable cross overs, flys, or the peck deck. No matter what 4 exercises for the chest on each chest day. Then finsh off the day with tri's. Always feels great.

He posted? Am I invisible here? that is the 2nd time nobody acknowleded my highly intellectual posts!!! bastards. hahahahaha
