Hey bros, when training for size and strength (as well as being on cycle), what is recommended as far as rest between sets?

It's not that important. What kind of training are you doing? If it doesn't call for rest intervals then just rest a minute or two, whatever is comfortable.

alright cool, i know that sometimes i get in there and ill hit a set then mess with my ipod or something and before i know it 3 or 4 minutes have gone by and i know thats probly not too good

I know why people take steroids! they fucking work!!!!!!!! I lift every day and get stronger-bigger-better!!! I recover overnight!!if your on gear go for it!!!!!!!!!!!

First off nobody on the MB takes steroids..... Lmao rest is key to growth. If you dont give your body 24 rest in between workouts you can risk injury and it just doesn't give your body the proper time to break down the muscles and help them grow. I would IMO depending on % of your workout,(I.e. 80% of max) then I would rest once every other day. As to say two on one off or every other day. The only issue is your ego and allowing yourself to rest. While on gear you can fall into a trance of never wanting to rest. You have to rest as much as you workout. You can overtrain. Like I said that's what I do. But everyone else is different.

i think you two misinterpreted my post.....i wasnt asking about rest in between workouts, but rather rest time in between each set DURING a workout

It depends on what intensity your lifting at. All I care about is strength so I take the time I need, which is usually 3-5 minutes.

Rest time for me depends on the type of exercise I'm doing. Squats usually take twice as long as say side lateral raises. So I say 1 to 2 minutes. IMO if you're too busy fiddling around with your Ipod, you're not mentally preparing for your next set. My son does that and it annoys the hell out of me.

Lmao. Listen to your body. It's diff for everyone. I'm about 1 min to keep my heart rate up

Heavy lifting at 80%+ intensity, I rest for two minutes. Anything less is normally 1.5 mins. If I am doing iso movements, I usually rest 1 min.

I time myself b/c if I don't, I always start too soon. I have a fast motor, and it is hard for me to sit still.

i just wait until i feel my heart rate start to go down a little from the exercise, maybe a min or 2 for some things maybe 3-5 for others.

Generally 2-3 mins if your doing heavy sets, or once your breathing level is back 80% normal.

Squats and deadies, I will rest for about 3-4 minutes. All other lifts about 1.5 minutes to keep your heartbeat up. Helps for burning fat.

Thats just me, we're all different. As long as you tear your muscle fibres you're g2g. JMO

I hear ya on the fast motor comment lol
I love to keep it revved and going !!!! I grab the weight and before I actually lift it I take another deep breathe in and out make sure i feel recovered
I did time myself for a bit but its so individual and I find gauging my own level of intensity and recovery more effective (if you can listen to it lol)

i agree, i just go on feel...some times certain movements are more taxing than other days...heavy squats id say is where i find myself not ready to jump in as quick

awesome, thank you to everyone who responded, repped

I think it depends on what you are looking to do. If you are looking for more of a cardio type workout, or that lean muscle build then don't take much rest at all between sets.

When I am in cut mode I will do things like 600 pushups in 30 minutes. 20 pushups a minute. 20 pushups takes between 10-15 seconds, so that leaves 45-50 seconds in between sets. It's really a great workout.

If you are looking for bulk then you can take a lot more time between sets and lift heavy. Hope this answers your question.

Go with whatever makes you feel comfortable... plain and simple! :winkfinger:
