I don't see it as a waste of talent cuz he played in college and as a pro for 5 years. He made money, and is tired of football. Good enough. He was under contract to the Dolphins, as long as he carries the pigskin, but he's not.

is it time to discuss his haircut?

What?

This retirment is retarted I know alot of ppl thats going be talking shit now... Whats up with this guy he has all the right talent to be an great now in my book..His another Mike Tyson that well piss alway is money to come back 4 yrs later to work for 1.2 million or low-pay like that are proably the min amount.

I agree with this. Hopefully the teams will realize that he isnt worth the risk if he decides to come back.

i doubt it...but i really don't know for sure.

i was just being a wise ass :angel2: b/c with all the football talk (which i love) the thing i take from the ricky williams story - was the change in hair style. go ahead - say it. "chicks" ;)

Do you like the bald head better, or his dreads?

ever hear those speeches about wasted talent and ppl who wished they had what you have hating you? yeah that would be ricky williams. (spaz)

i agree its a waste of talent, but at the same time, who are we to judge what he does with his life?

He already made more $ playing football a few months/year than most of us will in our lifetime, so, whats wrong with him quitting? Maybe he doesnt want to risk a life threatening injury.

Again, i agree that its weird when some players retire for no apparent reason, but the critics of such players are also the couch-manager/coaches who know why my Red Sox don't win the World Series, and if THEY were manager, they sure as hell would be champions.

Dang, I tried going to the website of that company that makes the masking agent Williams uses, but my office Websense filter blocks the site because it's "Illegal or Questionable."

Obviously they based his pay on some criteria, ie. yardage and TDs. So if he doesn't make what they consider to be that criteria, then it is considered to effect on-field performance. The pay is based on what he can do for the team, I am pretty sure you can tell if he is worth the money or not.

On the surface I agree with this. My point is that being measured against some arbitrary "standard" is just that, arbitrary. There's no way to tell what level a person COULD be performing to. Therefore I'm all in favor of drug testing just to eliminate that possible deterrent to peak performance.

All I can say is it's his life & his decision.

In my opinion it was a poor decision.

After I had played the running back position for 5yrs I loved the position & the guys I played with. If I had the opportunities Ricky Williams had, I would never pass them up especially not at the age of 27yrs old or 30yrs old.

I would only retire if I was having injury problems, maybe he was having some minor or major problems that was causing him problems to continue playing at his peak?

We'll never know as he's always seemed %100 & stayed healthy.

Whether it has to do with smokin' a little grass I don't know? But I say what's the harm in a little grass once in awhile? I've had a couple of joints a month. But not every day or even every week.

I certainly wouldn't retire with playing football in Miami (a city I would love to live in) & with that talent.

I think it's a waste of Talent as Wanstedt put it.

But he will be completing his degree from Texas in education so maybe he's going to take a different career path.

As for his anxiety disorders (a cause for his shyness & doing interviews with his helmet on), maybe that affected his decision. I wonder if he takes meds?
Maybe he stopped taking his meds & that helped make this decision.

Whatever it was I just hope he reconsiders as he is a talented player & will be missed.

He did amazing w/o a lot of offensive support as the link that was supplied stated.

Oh & I will miss the dreadlocks, they were cool.

What about alcohol, that can as easily effect performance, sometimes more. That is the problem, just because someone is doing drugs does not mean they will perform any worse than someone who gets drunk every night.

I completely agree. I feel the same way about alcohol as I do about other drugs. If I'm paying somebody a bazillion dollars a year to perform they damn sure better be performing at their peak. To me, that means clean AND sober. I know I'm gonna get slammed for infringing on "rights", too bad. Again, if I'm the team owner and I'm paying that much money to the players, they'd damn sure better be at 100% or they can go play for somebody else.

No person knows Ricky Williams. He said too many rules makes him insane and he is really tired of the whole situation and they made him run the football too much that it is killing him. Sometimes to leave the football gives him freedom and We do not know that Quaterback and running back do too much and if mentally they break down to revive them it takes a lot of therapy to get them back their normal life.

Ricky is a great back. he has made a ton of money and he wants to spend it and smoke pot in peace.

I've just heard that he will have to give $8,000,000 (some of it bonuses he'd earned) back to the Dolphins if he goes through with the retirement.

On top of the $650K fine for smokin' pot.

So it sounds like Ricky will play next year as it doesn't look like he can afford to give up that much cash.

I could be wrong but that's what I heard.

$8 million is some serious bread. Many ppl think he'll play just so he doesn't have to give up all that cash.

where did you hear that?

all i hear is the dolphins are looking for a new back...i dont think he cares if he has to give back the money and i also wasnt under the impression that the dolphins were going to go after his bonus. do you know for sure?

I heard it on one of the radio sports stations hear.

Personally if I had to give back another $8million to the team out of my pocket, I'd think twice about retiring & maybe play another couple of seasons or the rest of my contract.

He may be a headcase, a retard or a waste of talent, but damn I will NEVER forget how he dominated when he was at Texas.

UnBeLEIVEABLE!

Ricky is flaky. That's what I tell everyone.

I am a big Dolphins fan, but was I surprised that Ricky retired? Nope.
He is strange like that. Has any of you seen him interviewed when he was back at New Orleans? With his freaking helmet on!!!!!
My man wants to smoke weed peacefuly. He's pissed off because he failed a third drug test and the league was going to suspend him for 4 games....
Run Ricky, run......to Amsterdam where it's Ok to smoke pot...
By the way, I don't now, nor have I ever smoked pot. A good buddy goes there 4 times a year, and I don't think it's for the beaches....

Ricky Williams has severe anxiety disorder.

This is why he almost always has his helmet on during interviews.

Ths severe anxiety disorder is the reason for his shyness.

All of his teammates are aware of his shyness due to this problem.

Johnnny, he no longer wears a helmet for interviews, he used to do this before, I was just giving an example of the things he has done. He's just....flaky....
I know what severe anxiety disorder is and I know he had it. Supposedly he had licked it with medicine, which by the way, he has stopped drinking it and ever since he did, he's been making this very good career decisions....
Like I said, they should leave the guy alone and focus on the Marlins or the Heat...
Later......

I first off know not a damn thing bout football, where I come from football is soccer. However make'n a livin as a professional athlete is somethin I got a little grip on from tha inside. Sometimes it's not enough money in tha world to get tha shit banged outta you when it just ain't inside ya no more. Sometimes you wonder if this is worth what ya deal wit at home ,in tha press, on theses boards ha ha, and mostly in your heart, to go and keep train'n and get'n hurt and broke up, and lose tha person you are really to keep get'n chedder and cheers (or boos) from fans who are sleep while your doing roadwork in tha mornin and set'n on their asses watch'n you work ,and bitch'n bout what you shoulda done in that last play or last round, while they drink beer and fart while eat'n hot dogs and shit. When your heart ain't into your job, you SHOULD quit before you fuck up your career and become a bum, or even worse work half hearted wind up injuried or brain dead. If you stay around to long, people forget who you are and what you did when you where on top( Look at Mike Tyson, people only look at him now not all tha shit he did when he was into it and on fire), and when you leave early people, bitch and call ya coward, diva, spoiled rich fuck. It could just be a case of "He don't love it no more" and if that is it ,just speak'n for tha point of view I just kicked, GOD bless tha brotha, and may he find himself and be happy wit his life as not a football playa, but as a human being. This kinda reminds me of when I was a kid , my boys was drink'n and shit, one of tha chicks that was there said to a friend of mine "you drink to much for me" to which he replied " Bitch I ain't drink'n for you, I'm drink'n for me ! Maybe he ain't play'n for us , he's play'n for him.Sports is a game , Life is tha Shit. Just kick'n a point of view. Peace n Love

1) I think Ricky did a very smart thing. He said f ck it and walked away while everyone was on his c ck. Some people don't realize that it's his life and he can do what he wants.
2) Who in there right mind wants to work for a living when they can just sit back, relax, smoke, travel and get laid because they have alreday made a lifetimes worth of money at the age of 27.
3) A fact that allot of people don't know is that he is set for life. He walked away from the pro's at 27 everybody wants to do a movie/book about him know. And besides that the NFL takes care of it's own, once a player is in the leauge for 5 or more years and decides to retire they have to pay him a percentage of his highest salary for life. Not to mention the fact that he left after he got his roster bonus for the year! And who wants to play for the Dolphins anyway they will never win lol.

It looks like Ricky doesn't care that he has to give back $8million to the Dolphins as this will force him to quit even if he changes his mind.

Very sad.

I saw on the Fox link that apparently Ricky Williams still has severe Anxiety Disorder & heard Jason Taylor say he's very shy & quiet.
I read that he stopped drinking his medicine so, yeah, he still has the SAD...

Ricky doesn't exactly have a lifetime worth of money. He got screwed in NO when Master P signed that ingenious contract where Ricky made a base salary and not much else. He was in Miami only for a couple of years, so in reality this is where he made his money. For you and I it's a lifetime worth of scratch, but he'll blow it quickly. He smokes hash, and I know hash is not the most expensive of "hobbies", but it is still expensive. He loves to travel and he likes his Hummers. You tell me...
