By doing underhand (supsinated curl grip) you put your biceps in their strongest position so they have less chance of giving out before your lats have been "sufficiently" stimulated.
However, if you can strap weight round your waist and do wide-overhand grip for reps i'm gonna be mightily impressed. Not many folk can manage one rep with bodyweight!
