Was just wondering the maximum amount of saturated fat I could include into my diet. I try to eat as much EFA's as possible, but find myself eating some saturated fats. My calorie intake is 1800, 60g fat, 90g carbs, 225 protein. Thanks in advance!

Todd

I aim for 50% fats from monounsaturated sources, 25% polyunsaturated (w/ a minimum of 6 grams of Omega 3's daily) and 25% saturated fats

Are those 25% saturated inadvertant? Or do you actually try to get those in. I guess what I'm asking is is there anything wrong with taking in no saturated fat ever? I know thats not feasible but are they necassary, like sodium, on a small scale?

the NSCA reccomends your saturated fat intake to be 1/3 of your total daily fats (the rest coming from unsaturated sources).

Is that becuase you need some?

Or are they merely saying 1/3rd tops?

hormones are transported via fat.

testosterone is synthesized from cholesterol.

they are just giving a guidline recomendation like anything else.

What would happen if you consumed absolutely no saturated fats?

Thanks for the input

Sat. fats usually 'tag along' with other foods without you having to go looking (meats, dairy, eggs etc). So you do not need to supplement (unless you are getting all of your protein from egg whites).

And yes, it is generally recommended that you do get some saturated fats. I usually suggest 20% and I would not go below about 10-15%.

ps: Sodium is actually necessary/essential. ;)

Thanks Emma

Yea I knew about sodium thats why I was wondering if saturated fats, although bad are likewise necassary on a small scale

I'm just curious...why does protein count for half of your calories? Are you cutting?
