Hi guys,

I'm a skinny guy - past few months I was not eating properly and coupled with stress made me lose weight. I must've been 155, but now I'm probably down to 140.

But still, I have this belly.. I shouldn't say belly because that may sound big, but a small amount of fat around my belly. I'm kinda broke right now, but I eat corned beef and rice a couple times a day with no breakfast.

I was wondering if there's a home workout (no weights) that I can do using my body weight that can use this time of mine to kind of tighten my body and maybe rid of this little belly fat that I have.

In the next month or two my diet would get better but I wanna use this time to somehow rid the belly so when I start really working out in a gym and watch my diet and all, I can start building abs.

PS: I posted here everytime I wanted motivation, and sometime in mid-2009, I was able to do very good; diet-wise and workout-wise and stripped fat and started building lean muscle.

Advise much appreciated!
Thanks.

well first of all I want to say congrats for wanting to do something productive and not just sit and sulk while going through a hard time and I pray for you that things will improve
yes... there are many things you can do (including improve your diet) on a limited to no budget.
here first are my diet tips because frankly.... that is what concerns me the most
DO NOT buy corned beef any more sub with eggs and canned tuna (still not the BEST but cost effective and a hell of a lot better
also throw out the white (which I am sure you are doing) and get whole grain brown
breakfast is your biggest down fall and I implore you NOT to skip it (even it means not eating later. banana is cheap with some eggs and you are rockin'
ok now getting moving
push ups step lunges burpees and running steps (or just running) are all free and knock yourself out you can shadow box and jump rope too TONS of ideas but start with those and keep me posted

ah man stress is no good and working out is most def the best way to combat it. I would do as fraseram says as far as the diet goes ( I may use some of those pointers as well) As for working out at home I would go down to your local highschool track, they usually have pull up bars and bleachers you could use to really get a good burn. Now it may be a bit cold this time of year but you wont even notice it after running up and down those bleachers a few times..well good luck and hope all works out for you..

PS!!!Music!! Music my friend is a great motivator, find yourself something upbeat something that makes you want to move. The Rocky theme song is great for starters lol.

What's wrong with tuna and eggs? Those are staples in my diet.

A skinny guy trying to eat more - this won't matter.

Maybe he just likes eating later. Why do you think it matters that he eats first thing?

This part's fine.

Brown rice is better for you than white in more than one way
I'm not talking about the topic of fasted exercise but the importance of of eating breakfast for stabilizing/losing weight and overall health

Sure, if you're relying on it for the majority of your nutrition. Most of us here don't use it for the majority of our nutrition.

Now, to be perfectly fair, I actually LIKE brown rice. I rarely eat it because it takes an hour to cook. White's faster, and it's not going to make that much of a difference to anyone who doesn't eat macrobiotically.

Regarding breakfast, I know, that's what I thought you meant. Breakfast is easily the least important meal of the day. I've been training myself out of eating it, in favour of eating more in the evening.

I had the impression of white rice being his staple???....
As for the rest ..... each to own opinion
I'm not here to argue cheers :)

You're not here to argue?

Really?

Why not? How can we learn anything if we don't argue about it?

Guys, thanks a ton for your advice!
Just a few notes that I should have added, the reason shit's hit the fan is because I'm currently in Asia and tried to move my company here from Toronto. Things went bad.

Anyway, corned beef and rice are majorly what is available to me right now in terms of food, I can't get additional stuff unfortunately. (I have tons of rice and tons of canned corned beef)

About eating late - it's just weird timings really. First off, when I'm working (not currently), I work nights. Currently, I just broke up with the girl I love and so I don't wanna be home so I'm going out as much as I can. It will soon change to working nights though because things are going to look up. *fingers crossed*

So I'm waking up around 2-3pm and then eating the corned beef before going out around 10-11pm. Sucks, but hey, love is not easy to fight.

I hear this often. It's not a matter of opinion. It's a matter of fact and science. Just like just about everything else we talk about around here!

And on a more important note...I swear to you devileyes that I'm at this very moment eating corned beef, cabbage, rutabagas, corn bread and sweet tea. But yea man, you gotta try to get some better foods in you. You should be able to bump into a few fresh veggies or fruits over there...???? Good luck

good points to both built and merkaba about learning and science .......
I'm always up for that
just not up for a pissing contest LOL
I'm not a big fan of tense scenes conflict and anger ( deep baggage LOL ) anyway I just really shy away from anger and pecking beaks because it makes me feel picked on and afraid
I know I know :jerkit::nerd:
I am just not a strong person inside and .... well trying to get better and more empowered (but its a process)

Thanks Merkaba.

fraseram, Merkaba illustrated this quite nicely. He and I were not extolling opinion. We can back up what we say with current research. You posted up something that has indeed become the bro-school lore, and most in physical culture would agree with you.

Hell, I would have agreed with you, years ago.

Just not now.

Thanks Merkaba.

Yep me too! That's what I keep telling people around me locally. Trainers are a dime a dozen. Which ones are DAILY trying to stay on top of the latest research and data, etc. It's pathetic the type of stuff I see trainers doing to their clients, or telling them.

ok i'm all ears tell me how skipping breakfast is the healthy and better way?? I am curious..... also I thought bodybuilders were all about FEEDING and not getting into a catabolic state
Is that not what you are saying ???

good luck man gaining weight can be hard at times but its all about the quality of the weight.

Thanks charlie.
Still eating rice and corned beef and started with pushups.

hey man, i know what you're going through, sorry that i'm not of any help as far as nutrition and stuff, and i know this forum is more for informational purposes but I wanted to let you know that i'm going through the same shit and it sucks more than anything, i'm going on almost a year now and i'm still hoping things will go back to the way they were..
but anyways, eating right and just working out will make you feel better about yourself, it'll give you more self worth and less the feelings of apathy and self-pity..

good luck man, i'll be looking forward to hearing about your progress

Here you go: http://www.ironmagazineforums.com/d...fast-most-important-fat-burning-meal-day.html

Aceto's bro-school article, followed by a discussion on how outdated it is. Bodybuilders are all about feeding. Intermittent fasting is an efficient option that enhances partitioning. You won't go catabolic from a few hours of empty.

I think we just need to listen our bodies find what works for us and what makes us feel good. What I dont agree with (and not saying you are) is people who do things that make them feel sick or funny because they think it will get them bigger stronger or leaner. Life is not that hard..... sleep, eat good food, drink good water and lift heavy (wink)

I appreciate it brother. Really.
Although as much as I love her and miss her, I do not want her back in my life (secretly, deep down, I want her back in.. but still, no). Our relationship is not healthy and her insecurities, secrets, etc are just making us hate each other. I'm the only man on this planet with no water, no food but there is one full glass of motor oil. Do I drink it? Or leave it alone?

Anyway, on another note.. is it easy for a skinny lad to get hard/toned without building by not eating as much?

You'll just get skinnier. Why would you WANT that?

Any idea or guestimate at when a body would (on average) begin going catabolic? Do you think it depends at all upon the level of the person's fat stores?

Martin Berkhan talks about starvation mode here: Top Ten Fasting Myths Debunked (Major Update Nov 4th) | Intermittent fasting diet for fat loss, muscle gain and health

You can read Lyle Mcdonald's "Rapid fat loss" for more on this in a very low calorie, ketogenic setting. He wrote three different protocols based on graduated bodyfat levels.

built!!!you need to help me get my diet together!!!!:lifter:

Sure thing. Start a thread and drop me a PM when you've got the information down that I'll want. (hint: link in my sig tells you what I'll need to know)

I have read somewhere that statistically people who skip breakfast end up eating 100 more calories a day then someone who DOES eat breakfast.

we are not talking about 'skipping breakfast" what we are saying is that rather than eating and snacking all day to get your food into about a 8 to ten hour window in two to three larger meals and go then 14 16 hours without eating
some (like built from what i understand) eat most at night
we ALL break fast as it were.... it just depends on when
I myself wake up at 530 work out cardio then eat at about 830 .... do my weights then eat lunch at about 12 30 and dinner around 6
I find when I did that rather than snacking I actually eat and crave less
