I was wondering - If one were to maintain a slight calorie deficit (let's say a weekly deficit of 3500 calories per week based on BMR, activity level, caloric intake, and the like), and at the same time keep their muscles in hypertrophy via a sound progressive weight training program, would the body use fat stores as energy to build the muscle? I'm not entirely sure how these things work. It seems to me like the fat would be the only option left for the body to use as energy to build the muscle that's being forced to adapt. I could be comparing apples and oranges here too (muscle gain and fat loss). If anyone could shed some light on this, I would greatly appreciate it!
