Hey, Im 19 and have been weightlifing consistently for a year. 2 months ago i could flat bench dumbell press 32KG for 5-6 reps, now I can't even get my left arm in the air, but my right arm does it no problem. What is wrong with me? and how can i restore the balance?

switch from RHJO to LHJO for a few weeks until your strength equalizes.

GICH!

I would say that was dead on if the lift used more forearm! If he's like Ron Jeremy though it could simulate a pulldown and get a little more pec in it!

Damus- are you hurt or injured in any way? Any idea why this started?

If you can't lift your arm, I'd want to see an orthopedic doctor. I'm imagining a dead arm you can't even lift to reach the milk out of the fridge. That's not normal. If that's the case, don't wait. Every day you are healing, and it would be a shame if you healed wrong.

i use both my testicles to keep balance when im working out, thats how heavy they are... my doc says i got a condition

Hey thanks for you're reponses. In everyday life there is no problem with my left arm, only when lifting weights, in pressing movements. I feel no noticeable sharp pains when lifting just weakness. (went to the docs and nothing wrong could be found)

What does RHJO mean?

Go see a sports physician. Regular doctors aren't going to see something like that and they won't know where to begin looking for a problem. A sports physician may have already seen somebody else with that or they will at least know where to start looking for what is wrong.

Another possibility is it may be a sign you need to change up your routine. Change what you do, change your rest days, etc.

all I can think of is a nerve problem. When I tried to massage my triceps one time a while ago when I did not know much about trigger points, I thought it was tight there and it was a nerve I found out I was rolling over, made my right forearm weak. I had to do forearm curls to get my strength back up even with my left arm and yes I am right handed.

I am guessing it is probably a nerve issue somewhere. Be careful what you are massaging and know where the nerves are, just letting you know.

Try these exercises comparing to your left (1 arm at a time) and let us know which exercises you have a strength imbalance in and how much of a strength imbalance. Use the same amount of weight and same about of reps for both arms starting with your weaker arm, which is your left arm...

Start with activation exercises first using both arms at once...
Wall Slides (activation)
Blackburns (activation)
Scap Push Ups (using only your scap..activation)
lying external rotations (dumbbells)
forearm curls (dumbbells)
1 arm db bench press
1 arm shoulder press
1 arm cable lat pulldown

Find your weak point and work on it, I am trying to help you find what is weak. You may have done something to a nerve like I did when I thought it was just a knott, but it was a nerve and made my forearm weak.

Out of those exercises mentioned, which ones can you do more reps on your strong side and is there a major difference in any of them?

Is the issue in your shoulder, or actully in your arm itself? I'm kind of wondering if there's somewhat of a flat bench form issue here, which can easily be corrected. If it's a shoulder issue, this would be my first guess.

sounds like you injured yourself if you can't lift your left arm. if you have some muscle imbalances in your body you would want to do some research on the conjugate training method and westside barbell.

Had a similiar issue, but mine was in my left shoulder and it was on the flat bench press. I just stopped doing flat and just did incline and decline and db presses. No real issues yet, and I feel any strength imbalance is being fixed using the db presses. Correction sometimes my left shoulder will give out so I make sure I use a spotter with 100lbs and over.

Yes its most likely a nerve/tendonitis issue, so ive taken at least a week off. When i go back to the gym i'll try different movements for chest and shoulders.

Also when i get back to using dumbells, do you think it would be ok to do 1 arm seated dumbell press for shoulders (as opposed to dumbells in both hands) when i start doing heavier sets, just to concentrate on the weaker side and strenghthen the 'mind muscle connection'
