Just the other day the heat index in my town was 103 Degrees F and it was fricken humid (because it is Indiana). I was helping my friend move but it seemds like even when we where taking a break, in the shade, we were sweating our asses off and felt drained like we had run 10 miles. Even before we had moved anything more than a few bags of cloths.

My question is, can you burn calories just sitting around in that kind of heat because your body has to work to keep you cool?

This may sound idiotic but I was just curious.

Thanks :)

I don't know the answer for certain but I am assuming like you said your bod is probably burning some calories trying to stay cool. Nothing considerable though. Most of it woudl be water. Very similar to a sauna.

You're right, Icon.

No significant calorie loss just sitting around sweating.

sweating due to the environment is not the same as when sweat is produced to remove metabolic heat from exercise. I don't see how the caloric expenditure could be the same...

I think it would be similar to the body tryin to warm water up when you drink Ice water. Maybe that isn't the best analogy. hmm
