Hello all,

I have a couple of questions about doing Tabata.

First off, as I lead a busy life, I only have a short amount of time to workout...that being said, the only exercise I do every day is a 20 minute Tabata routine in the morning.

In this routine I do the typical 20 second interval/10 second rest...I choose 4 exercises and perform them...for example, today I did High Knees, Jumping Jacks, Situps for two 4 minute intervals, and then ended with High Knees again.

Is this going to be effective in losing weight? I do no other cardio training...although I am going to begin doing a Cardio workout Tabata style every other day (20 second sprint/10 second jog)

Any input would be great!

Cabl3,

Tabata Interval Training

The key to interval training is to push your heart rate up into the 80% heart rate zone or higher during your training sessions.

What this does is elevate your metabolism long after your workout is over. Thus, you continue to burn calories/body fat long after your workout is over.

This is cause created by...

Excess Post Oxygen Consumption (EPOC)

EPOC is similar to over charging your credit card. You cannot pay it off at the end of the month. You are allowed to make monthly installment payments.

In the case of EPOC, you cannot pay it off at the end of your workout. You've "over charged you metabolic system".

Credit Card Charge

However, for extending you credit and allowing you to make time payments, you are charged a monthly interest rate on what you owe.

That means you end up paying back a lot more money.

Same With EPOC

That's what happens with High Hntensity Interval Training.

You end up making time payments back...and you are charge more for doing so.

That means High Intensity Interval Training is the most effective method of burning calories/body fat.

With that said, the real key to weight loss is

Diet

80% of a weight loss program is centered around diet.

The other 20% of weight loss comes from and exercise program.
