Usually the very very very first things done in the gym were WRONG. But at the time you were sure of it, right? Shit I remember mine..

Benching on a Smith Machine-though it wasnt 'wrong,' I did this because I didnt like doing flat barbell cuz of the weight moving around. Shit, I remember not having the stabilization to center it. Oh and 135lbs was a bitch. And 185lbs was a goal. I thought the weight on the Smith equaled the weight on a flat barbell.

Machines-I did 140lbs on an incline bench press machine and thought I was big and tough. No, I was a big tough pile of shit.

Legs-never did them.

Cardio-never did that.

Diet-eat steaks, protein shakes were nasty, and there was no such thing as good fat vs. bad fat.

Abs-situps not crunches and the more the better.

Deadlifts-always rounded my back. As long as I got the weight up, then it was a sufficient lift.

Pullups-yeah I was great at these and so was every other 145lb kid. And full rom didnt exist.

Arms-by far the most important workout. "Curls for the girls," and it actually worked! Triceps? What are those?

Back-never did back workouts either. If I couldnt see it in the mirror, then its not important. Then again, I didnt know pullups were a back workout.

Spotting-even though i had them in school, I didnt ever want anyone to see me struggling, so I didnt ever try to challenge myself.

Straps, Belts, Towels-youre a pussy if you use ANY of these.

Losing weight-just do cardio and stay away from weight.

Yep, I was a real genius back then. :clapping:

No change then, you just joined last week then......:D

Just kidding, Fatcatmc as in AKIRA being a newbie at the gym.

I instantly knew "all" the first time I entered a gym!

Ah, I just didn't understand it the way it was worded.

The first time I went to a gym was in High School.

I was a typical young dumbass who only did chest and biceps.

Doing Chest 5 times week was the first workout program (if you even want to call it that) I ever did. I remember thinking I was some sort of badass when I finally managed to do a few reps with those big plates (45's) on each side

bench press, triceps, front/rear/side sholder raises...evey other day and took creatine.... lol i was a dumb ass at age 13, it was a start though....

6months later i learned about overtraining and also learned about the need to train full body... i moved up to doing deadlifts, powercleans, squats, and bent over rows

The first time I lifted a weight was in 10th grade weightlifting class. While all the other kids were waiting in line for the Preacher Curl station, I was busy Flat Benching and Squating. I had a 260 lbs bench and a 320 lbs squat when I left 11th grade. Not bad for a fat kid that didn't play any high school sports! Now obviously I do alot more than just benching and squating, but I will thank my weightlifting coach for at least giving me a good foundation to build muscle on.

9th grade highschool weight training class ahahha.
we never did a single back or ab workout ever!
I remember being very excited the first time I put up 115 on bench, and I remember being very upset that I couldn't use the 45 lb olympic bar for military press hahahaha! Long time ago!

bench pressing 3 times a week. Not changing my workout, doing the same rep range, listening to people who told me "benching 95 for 15 reps has the same effect on you as benching 165 3 times" not training legs, not eating enough or eating shit cos I thought diet was a joke. Yeah, I'm glad I don't do half the shit I did before.

I knew exactly wht to do the minute I walked in the place..lol
Actually Dad was a BBer so I was schooled..

First went to the gym at 16 and had a pretty good routine, but I was quickly distracted by all the hoes, talking with friends and impatience (I expected to be ripped after a week or two).

My lower body volume was abyssmal. I did leg extensions and curls; that's it. Actually, I also did power cleans, but my form sucked some very large balls and I pretty much just powered it up with my upper body.

Too much fucking pressing. Not enough pulling; none at all really, except for a few sets of bicep curls.

Did all my static stretching before lifting.

Paid no attention to my diet.

All endurance-oriented abdominal work.

Hah! Me too! When I did ANY stretching that is.

Never used dumbells for chest. Too afraid of popping my shoulder out even though it never happened before.

Behind the neck lat pulldowns, pull ups, and yep, you guessed it, shoudler presses.

ALWAYS pyramided up in intensity and NEVER did an exercise with one intensity level.

Warm ups were optional. ( i guess some could say that now)

The weight done on a leg press was greater than or equal to a barbell free weight squats. (bragging rights)

Machines were used more dominately than free weights for ANY bodypart.

I too did bench 3 times a week.

Shrugs were done in circular motions.

:suicide:

I benched in a smith machine as well... I went to the gym 3 times a week, and did the same thing pretty much everyday... I used a LOT of machines, and working my chest & curling were the main priority... Diet was non-existent, ate fast food for most of my meals, along with lots of hotdogs, chips, cookies, soda etc... Twas horrible.

This was around my sophomore/junior year of high school, I changed things around november(2004) of my senior year.

sounds like me :D in the very begining

When the sales guy was showing me around the gym, he asked me what i wanted to come to gym for.

I said, " I want bigger arms and chest"

I did the famous KEFE bench and curl workout

Aside from some machine presses, barbell curls, and a leg press thrown in for good measure, I did mostly ab work and cardio.

Also had no concern for diet whatsover, and as such made little to no progress. Luckily, my shameful secret is all but behind me.

1. paid no attention to diet.

2. squattd w/ smith machine (well no squat rack were I started lifting.

3. too much cardio (well I had to walk I had no car.)

4. deadlift w/ ez curl bar w/ 45 on ea. side lol.

5. never did any serious bb push work all dumbbell. (im still nervous of it.) but Im getting into it slowly.

6. no calf work, and inconsistent leg work in general.
