Cols,OH. It sucks.
Any thoughts on how or why my weight can fluctuate by as much as 4lb from one day to the next, even though there may be very little difference in my diet, water and sodium intake and/or exercise level (plus I weigh myself first thing in the morning after using the bathroom). At 181-185lb, 4lb seems like a significant swing.

bowel movements
sodium intake
water intake
carb sources

do you weigh yourself fasted each morning right when you wake up? or at different times?

Do you wake up at the same time every morning when you weigh yourself?

I notice that the days I have to set my alarm earlier than normal and wake up on less than my 8 hours of sleep I will weigh about 1 lb more every time. Then when I weigh the next day after my full 8 hour sleep I'm back to normal weight...

After I have my first meal I will jump about 4lb...

Always weigh yourself first thing in the morning, don't even drink water...

Just piss or shit if you have to...

A gallon of water weighs about 8lbs. thus after the gym I "gain" about 10lbs. Your body mass is the same the fluctuation is all nutrient/water based. I am 250-260 depending on nutrition/water.

I can fluctuate 10 pound either way.

dont let it screw with you as long as you dont progressively go in one direction or the other. The scale is a loose guide. Calipers or better for the win bro. Im sure you are just fine with the fluctuation back and forth.

Yeah doing a massive shit and boom 4lbs down!

Thanks for all your thoughts. Much appreciated. I do weigh myself at the same time each day; naked & fasted after a night's sleep and a morning poop! The fluctuations haven't bothered me, per se, but when I'm happy about being down 6lb in three weeks on Monday morning (for example) it's an unwelcome surprise to find I'm only down 2lb on Tuesday morning. My scale is electronic and the batteries are fresh, so I'm not sure humidity or climate changes have much to do with it. I've never considered that the amount of sleep might impact it, but I'll certainly bare that in mind now. I'll also do some digging around to find my old caliper set. I forgot about that thing. Thanks again, and best wishes to you all for 2012.
