Not really a product, But Im curious what you all think of such things; these giant bottles of calorie powder that are supposed to make you big, because it burns really quick.. My assumption was that it could be useful right after a workout with a protien shake since its fast burning carbs.. But my best friend seems to believe its an all day every day thing; that when you're bulking, you need to eat as many calories as possible.
To which I replied,"Not really, you dont just go to McDonalds and load up on high calorie foods when you're bulking.."
But apparently the guy at GNC told him to eat anything he could get while bulking, he needs tons of calories. He went on to say,"The guy at GNC told me the MINIMUM(he emphasized vocally) you need to eat a day when bulking is 5000 calories."
Without missing a tick, I said,"Was his name Johnnny?" :funny: He didnt get it.
He does follow the advice from the guy at GNC though; he eats anything. Whopper and fries today, yesterday had that hardees burger with 1/2 pound of meat and bacon ect; bug macs are also not uncommon..(and this is just lunch) but he takes fat blocker pills, so hes ok! lol
What do you all think? If Im wrong, Id like to know Im wrong and admit it.. or more preferably, drop the subject(pride) instead of ranting on about something I dont know about, like the n00b I am.
But Id rather be right :D

I think an equivalent amount of caloric intake from healthier foods is a better option. If you really need to use something like this, it is better than not getting a sufficient number of calories. However, you should at least try to make sure it isn't filled with sugar.

Of course, 16oz of milk, 2 TBSP PB, 1 cup of oats, and 2 scoops of whey in a blender is a much better homemade version of one of those drinks. It would containt a decent balance of the three macros, and contain nutrients not found in most weight gainer powders.

most of those weight gainers are nothing more than whey protein(s) and a combination of simple sugars like maltodextrin and fructose. you can make the same thing yourself at a much cheaper cost or like Cowpimp stated there are much healthier ways to increase calories to help gain LBM...

Gotta be honest folks, i made use of NLarge and especially Pro-Mass (Dorian Yates Approved) for getting extra calories without the heavy/sluggish/bloated feeling that coems from real food when i last "bulked". Just two scoops on a morning with my normal breakfast was great.

I found caramel rice cakes easy calories too.

true...but you have to take into account that you are knowledgable about nutrition. a lot of people use weight gainers in place of sound diet when they must be used in conjunction with a sound diet for optimum results...

I know there is a BV for protein but there is also for fats and carbs? If so, what would be the BV for most weight gainers?

most weight gainers use WPC due to the low cost. the BV of whey protein(s) is 100...

OMG, LOL; I had no idea how close I was to the name of the weight gainer product from that episode, pure coincidence!

Also, Thanks guys :thumb:, Thats what I thought as well. Ive been thinking about it all day and my theory is that the information hes getting is,"simple and safe"
In other words, nobody wants to sit around and explain everything to him in detail; that would take days. And the,"guy from GNC" just wanted to make sure he didnt eat too little. Anyways, I think Ill be working out with him soon, So Ill Try to learn everything I can in the area so Ill make more sense than just telling him what hes doing isnt the right way to do it.

agreed

2 scoops of whey and a cup of oats - best weight gainer ever!

i drink this everyday about 1/2-1 hour before i workout, regardless of cutting or bulking its a staple now in my diet, gives me all the fuel i need for an intense workout

i recommend you try it :thumb:
