Upright row?

This bothered me in the past as well. I used to go really high with close grip. Then I started using wider grip and don't go past my chin when I pull it up, it helped. No more pain. That said, there are other exercises that's more effective than this.

Hanging cleans are a better choice anyway, if you are looking to work the delts. I don't like upright rows at all.

Just wanted to say thanks man, i appreciate the advice. I switched to wide grip today, and didnt have any pain at all and still got my delts along with traps. Dont know why i never thought to do it before. I like this way more, and will continue to use from here on out.

Glad I could help. :winkfinger:

Have you ever tried using dumbbells for upright rows?

Yea, i actually added that into my routine last week, and they helped, but it just didnt seem to hit my traps and delts the way the BB upright row did, and didnt seem i could go as high either. Like any other new exercise though, gotta get used to the motion and correct form for it to work. So i am going to keep doing them and give it a shot.
