Using nuts for EFA's...

i believe that they reduced the risk of certain diseases due to the lowering of cholestrol....from omega fatty acids...they are present in olive oil however flax and hemp have a much higher content. I am not saying that olive oil is bad by anymeans...however i dont consider it a good source of efa's.

i have taken 2 of my clients that had very high cholesterol (and on medication) given them hemp oil to try for 3 months with no other diet changes and when they returned to the dr.s their cholesterol was alot lower and they no longer needed to take any meds...you may want to search the benefits of hemp and then compare the results to olive oil....just a thought :D

after looking at the above site, my view is: # 1 flaxseed oil, # 2 olive oil, # 3 walnut oil... and no peanut oil ( 19 % saturated fat

? what are you talking about ? hemp is far superior than any of those oils....anyways

For cooking, oils low in PUFA's are best. Everything from palm oil down in the table can be used. If you want to keep saturates low, then olive oil is the one to go for.

For salad use, anything that's cold-pressed above palm oil in the table is suitable. A lot of oils contain a high proportion of omega-6 compared to omega-3 PUFA's. Flax oil and fish oil are the only oils with more w-3 than w-6 so a mixture of oils should be used to balance the EFA's.
