There would be no way I could see the evidence in a court room and then be the judge. I can maintain my emotional detachment and look at the legal issues from a philosophical perspective just fine, but in a court of law I'd lose that detachment and he'd be screwed.

I can't even look at LW's link. I can look at the videos of those guys that got their heads sawed off more easily.

i think a lot of people have an easier time seeing humans suffer. not sure why but it is a hell of a lot easier to find human agony and gore online than it is real footage showing the brutality of dog fighting. the images are horrifying... the sounds of their agony are somehow even worse.

if i suddenly came upon a scene and a human and a dog were in the water drowning i'd try to save the human first and i think that's the right choice but i'd fight like hell to save the dog too. the funny thing, one that compels man as a species to love dogs so much maybe, is that they will sometimes risk their lives to save us too. the least we can do is fight for them when they are in a position where they are being used for entertainment and profit in a bloodsport.

If you took from my defending the rights of due process, equal prosecution, and balance of crime and punishment that I think what Vic did was cool then maybe you're an idiot. There is no where in here that I said or implied that I'm ok with dog fighting or the cruelty he showed those animals. Matter of fact I even agreed with your thoughts on what he should receive as a punishment with the exception that I disagree about his losing his livelihood over this. I changed my mine, I think that he should be put in a ring with two viscous pitbulls, if he survives he can be set free, however they will most likely rip him into pieces and he will die a slow and agonizing death, much better than prison and losing his job.

The penalties for committing murder on a human being cannot be the same as for killing dogs. A year or two of jail, some lengthy community service at the dog shelter, a huge fine, and a healthy parole time ... these are more in line with his actions IMHO.

What would really work for me is if the fed's and the Commonwealth of Virginia forced Vic to hork up the details on the underground world of dog fighting. Federal sentencing guidelines are mandatory. The court cannot just cut him slack. If convicted he will do a minimum of 80% of his mandatory sentence. He can get a downward departure for information and cooperation. Get him to help them shut down other organizations that are doing this and getting away with it. He's been doing this for several years and he definitely knows the players. Use him to save those dogs that still live, instead of bar-b-queuing him over the ones that are already dead. Create a little domino effect.

Regarding your post at me ... you think the pitbulls would really eat him, or would they go into battle mode and fight each other Either way it's great our little time together here was able to help you reach your inner self on this issue Rob. If you were to get the job as his manger in that place can you imagine what it could be like for him? Jodi ... he has no veterinary training at all. He would be qualified to do nothing more than muck their shit. Poetic justice would be you assigning him to pull on them funky rubber gloves and pick up dog shit or scrub the floors in their lil houses. You could manage the public relations and use his name to actually increase the adoptions in your entire region.

Plus you'd be there to make sure he doesn't violate the terms of his parole. He even looks mean at an animal and you send him back to the federal pen.

I'm sure you have a like minded person or 2 (million) working in the animal protection services that would consider it one of the better parts of their careers to get him in their control and enjoy this kind of opportunity.

That plan you sarcastically asked that question about is how the fed's have a 92% conviction rate ... from giving plea-bargains to people they have by the short and curlies. It's how they got Vick in the first place.

Rob besides the obvious stuff that won't happen like execute him, put him in a ring with a couple of pitbulls, or my favorite ... send over to the taliban and then release the news that he's a CIA spy so we can see the video of him getting his head sawed off and so on ... realistically how do we get the most out of this?

If he gets the boot from the NFL then his sign on bonus and all the money he received from the NFL will go back too the NFL. By the time the get done with him he'll be a broke assed dude in our prison system on our dime. That dog won't hunt. I don't wanna pay to feed and house this asshole. Fuck him let him pay his own bills ... and then some more bills for a whooole bunch of animal shelters and w/e.

Of course we could just run him through the system for several years, end his football career, stack a bunch of fines on him that he cannot ever pay ... and just leave him out in the cold to sleep under a bridge somewhere. Not as productive but it would offer another form of justice
