I'm curious, I see people saying it more and more. "Stop drinking shakes," or "switch to real food."

This is what I see that shakes do not offer:

No vitamins/limited vitamins
Digestion isn't slowed because you aren't mixing with veggies (It isn't a complete meal)
Not always made from the greatest material
Not always sure of what you're actually downing
Some people over do it with the carbs

Thats all the negatives I see. There is no such thing as eating too much protein at one time. Calories are calories. So where did this begin? What is the reasoning behind it? I have yet to see someone actually say why shakes are so bad. I'm not saying you won't see an improvement by switching from shakes to whole foods, but how do you know that isn't because of a caloric increase?

If someone can offer insight or better yet, actual studies, I would very much appreciate it.

I don't think shakes are inherently bad, so long as you pick one of the many good products out there. I think the problem comes when people attempt to replace whole foods with shakes. As long as you are eating plenty of food, a couple shakes a day are just fine, IMHO.

I do two shakes a day on workout days and three a day on non-workout days (Keto). It just works out a lot simpler. Sometimes I'll take it with other food, sometimes I won't. I just don't really understand why everyone has been hating on shakes lately.

very, very few people out there know the real science behind most supplements. the fact that people question protein powders tells you how little they actually know about supplementation.

I think shakes are a great addition to a well established meal plan. However, they should not be used as meal replacements if your goal is to put on mass. Hence the term dietary supplement. Shakes are like the icing on the cake. Once you have acquired your needed nutrients from your meals, the shakes pack in extra amino acids/proteins/calories to give you that extra fuel for maximum muscle growth.

Some people will say that you don't absorb as much protein if you get it from shakes. I have trouble with this statement because I don't see any logic behind it. If they were to say, "You won't burn as many calories because you're body isn't having to break down the food." OK I understand that. But protein shakes = less protein bioavailability? I don't get it.

I like shakes and Whey has more benefits than just building muscle.

"commercial bulkers" are fkg hideous . . shakes are fine for convenience, but make your own out of quality ingredients
:
-oats, milk, eggs, whey, frozen berries, EVOO, spirulina powder is a personal fav

.. . if you keep it in a thermos it will keep all day

I use shakes to fill me up when I'm dieting. Helps me feel fed longer.
