I was told that not letting your gas tank get lower than 1/2 full gets you better gas mileage (and saves you money). Has anybody tried this? Does it work?

Sorry dude, but you're on crack if you think that's true. It has been proven by AAA that using air conditioning on the highway actually SAVES gas when compared to driving with even just a a drivers side (only) window down. And that doesn't take anywhere near 10%. As compared to windows rolled down. The wind pressure which is added to the car (like riding on a motorcycle with your jacket only half zipped up; like a parachute, etc...) and causes extra stress on the engine, thus more fuel consumption.LexusGS said:how does ac lower fuel consumption on highway?

There is no positive pressure built up in our gas tanks. Actually, it's the opposite. As we use fuel the tank lowers which in turn creates a vacuum. We've all heard the suction sound when we released our fuel caps, right? Either way the theory is not plausible as the computer regulates air fuel mixture down to a fraction.
