Hi guys, I'm new here but so far love the tips and comments.. I been working out for almost 2 years and just recently started getting serious about bodybuilding. I'm still working on dropping a couple of pounds but even though I'm heavy on the scale everyone tells me I look thick not fat. I weight in at 215 I'm 5'8 with 18bf recently. I'm 28 played sports all my life and I only know one way of lifting-HEAVY! Anyways to get to my point I started a new job around 2 years ago and although the work is easy, the schedule is brutal. 12 hr shifts switching from nights to days. My question is What do you guys think about naps before working out? I takr naps at work sometimes up to 45 mins long. Only at nights but I seem to still be tired when I get off and hit the gym. Any feedback? Thanks guys..

I take a nap before the gym on friday and saturdays since i have the time. Yes you will still feel tired if you slept too long because you are drowsy. I think power naps are the way to go, 20-30 minutes.
Doesent even matter if you fall asleep or not. Just close your eyes and rest your mind and body. You will be surprised at how well short naps help you with your energy both mentally and phyically.
Any longer and you will feel drowsy for a few hours. I also take caffeine when i wake up before going to work out.

I have read that around 45 mins your mind goes into a different sleep mode. You do not want to get in this advanced sleep mode or you wake up feeling more tired then before the nap.
I would kill for a daily nap!

cut out the 5 LHJO sessions and you will have time for the nap...

Interesting. Seems 45 mins is the majic number. I am lucky that I get to take naps at work up to 45 mins. But I will try to keep it at a minimum. Even when I get a full 7 hours of sleep a 12 hour shift takes its toll on your body.

your right... maybe if you stopped sending pics of your hot wife...

I would if you stop repping me for the pictures. But we both know that isn't going to happen:D

This message was sent using fucking awesomeness.

when you wake up at 9am and realize it's too early to get up so you go back to sleep. then you wake up again and it's 5:00pm and you have to rush and jump out of your pj's before the gf gets home from work...

If time permits, you should take naps for as long as you feel you need if you're feeling tired. Your goal should be not to feel tired at all, feeling tired is your body's way of telling you you're not getting enough rest, and not enough rest negatively affects gains.

I've been working shift work for almost six years now. Some nights I get as much as 3 hours sleep throughout the night and still can't work out in AM. On nights I work out before work (which helps if you take a PWO) and on days I work out after work and move around my off days to fit my schedule because eventually you need to sleep all day to recharge.

I will have to change up my workout shedule. When I work nights I usually workout after work, which is usually around 730 am. But after a 12 hour shift have no energy. I will have to start going before work around 4pm. . But damm at 4pm you have to fight for a chance at the weights. Its freaking packed in my gym..

Same with mine. I go about 45min ahead of the crowd around 230. I'm at work for 4-430 in evening. You could sleep 8-2 and be at gym for 3 maybe and get ahead of a few people....also helps if you reverse your routine or m ok ve it up a day or two. I never do chest on Monday and so on.
