IF you could only pick one shoulder exersize, upright rows or lateral raises, which would you chose to do and why?

personally, lateral raises for me. There isn't another shoulder exercise that i feel the same way as these. Upright rows put too much stress on my wrists!

Lat raises. :thumb:

lat raises isolate the delt more where as upright rows get your traps and other muscles helping the delts out.

Overhead Presses

but between those two i would do upright rows, unless you have problems with your shoulder on those (as some people tend to have).

why cant u do both or switch it up..goodness...people respond better to different exercises...NOONE is the same...i do lateral raises every week and combo them with uprights every other because they can cause rotator strain

yo chris rock...is taht ur gurl in that pic? she is smokin hot

I would do shoulder press

I would def pick a shoulder press but he said out of the two.

I'd switch em up every month.. Do you just do one shoulder exercise?? I usually go for:
shoulder presses
Laterial raises
up-right rows
rear delt lifts
and switch one or two of them out every now and then and use cables or other exercises every now and then.

if i had to i would do laterals as i dont like the idea of using biceps aswell unless i was training them that day

Good call.. I'll add switching between double arm or concentrated single arm LATL Raises

On presses I like to go between... dumbell and barbell, seated and standing, standard or arnold style (Dumbell), Front and behind head (barbell)

I also get good results from supersetting side raises w/front raises... Or... SS'ing, double arm side LATL Raises w/single arm sets...

Also Mix up high intensity heavy reps w/burning-pumping med-low weight reps.

Any thing that will make the muscles hurt for a day or two
(Don't confuse Muscle pain w/joint pain!!)

The question is either/or and why?

I would do lateral raises with various angles because they work the delt and trap tie-in better than just the upright row.

Peace:cool:

this thread has gotten really annoying, i started this thread asking which of the two exersizes you would do and why. i didnt ask for what exersize you would do. that's the problem with some boards, you ask a question and you get a bunch of bs about nothing what the original question was for

I'd never pick just one.....

(Ask a stupid question, get a wealth of answers.... And then Bitch about it) :flipoff2:

I do Lateral raises, frontal raises, bent dumbbell lateral raises and shoulder press

Out of those, I prefer frontals - much better technique for me.

The Bent laterals are indispensably painfull, hate them. But there is no good working the front/sides and skipping the posterior.

Here's a novel idea: actually read what they have to say because their knowledge most likely surpasses yours; LEARN SOMETHING. Also, don't complain to people when they're trying to be kind and help you.

it was a question, asking one or the other, and why. i didnt need a wealth of info about anything other than those TWO particular exersizes. anything else is TOO MUCH INFO. you dont know the rest of my exersizes so you have no room to talk. this thread has turned into a thread like on bb.com just a bunch of stupid answers. and it's not a stupid question.

and here's a novel idea, wait till your done going through puberty to critisize me

I'm not sure how my age comes into play at all, but you act and write like you're twelve, so I'm really not offended.

I disagree with that. Some people my age have wisdom beyond what most will ever have. Wisdom doesn't even come into play with this thread. Knowledge and wisdom are very different. A fifteen year old who has been lifting weights for five years with an experienced coach may very well know more than you do about weight training (no, I'm not saying that's me). That person has knowledge but perhaps not wisdom.

They also say maturity comes with age, but that's obviously not true for some people.

can't we all just get a long?

I would do upright rows.

P-funk

Which exercises do you do to hit the posterior delt? Any bent-over laterals?

i just do seated barbell shoulder press (front) been doing it for ages, can do 175lbs for reps (8+) when i was doing 110lbs pressing i used to lateral all the time and did about 20lbs for 8 reps, just been pressing for ages to get to 175lbs and when i did do a lateral after a year i did 35lbs for reps so i dont bother with them to much
