what is the difference between whole wheat bread and whole grain bread? is whole grain that much better?

Yes, whole grains/multi grains is much better than just whole wheat, any day.

what is the main difference.. nutrionally

Whole wheat is still quite processed, and usually has more sugar, and usually a higher GI rating. Where The whole grain is less processed and contains more fibers, and usually has a lower GI.

This depends......if you are talking about bread type products then Whole wheat simply means that whole wheat has been added but it doesn't mean that is does not contained refined flours because it most likely does.

100% whole wheat means whole grain wheat so essentially its the same thing. In breads you want to fine 100% whole wheat (stoneground) or even better Multigrain because it is better than whole wheat.

there are also multi grain varieties that aren't made with whole grains

Just check the ingredients. Most multi grain varieties aren't made with whole grains. I can usually only find whole grain, multi grain types at health stores.

Arnold's Multigrain is fairly different from Ezekiel's, for example.

Arnolds has flour and Ezekiel's does not. Ezekiel is sprouted grains.

so if im using "100% whole wheat" then i should be a - ok...

Yes but I keep in mind nothing will compare to the sprouted grains ;) They have some kick ass cinnamon raisin english muffins too :nanner:

if you're in Canada- look for Dempsters line of whole grain breads.. can be found at Superstore or other larger grocery stores. They contain no white flour, high in fiber and sooo tasty :)

Depends on the other ingredients. If you see any sugars or corn syrups then no, its not good.
