I think it would be interesting to find out the reasons why some people train/ experiences how people started.
General fitness?
For a sport?
Anything else?

My funny reason for starting was that I always wanted to feel what it was like to have pecs and abs when I was about 12-13, I'd do press up's and sit up's every morning, afternoon and night until I was bought a machine bench press and a lat pulldown mixed in one piece of equipment, of which I'd again do morning, afternoon and night . Around that I got bullied a lot though so that was the reason I wanted to get much bigger than everyone else so I wouldn't get shit any more; but now I guess I've just gained a healthy obsession :daydream:

i always had jobs that kept me in shape, construction, warehouse work... then i got in to sales and lost it all. the day i realized how much i have lost i started hitting the gym.

I to keep me out of trouble. I was heading down the wrong path, and a Marine Recruiter made me workout with him. Been hooked ever since, and still talk to him. He pretty much saved my life.

My wife died, I was drowning myself in alcohol and I needed to do something for myself that was solely about me.

don't even remember ...it was long time ago! all i remember was that i did it pretty much when i was 9 (pull ups and push ups) ..serious training with weights started at 14-15....did lots of sports: track and field, soccer, judo, ..but then i left all for bodybuilding ..i think i was obsessed with strength and health early as a kid for some reason.
i was the type who could build muscle by breathing..

Started lifting weights for football in 10th grade and I got kinda obsessive about it, so it was no surprise I kept lifting after I stopped playing. Got a $100 bench from Play It Again Sam for my birthday and lifted weights in my room until I went to college and got a gym membership. I don't really see myself ever stopping

Started 6 months before my wedding . Weighed in at a fat ass 115kg , didn't want to be a plonk on the day. Haven't stopped since, enjoy getting and staying strong.

When I was 16 and they were a little older,2 brothers in my neighborhood were "bodybuilders" or so they thought. They would always brag about how much they could bench. I went to their garage one day and they were benching. Doing a one rep max thing. One did 190, the other 225. I tried next with the 225 and nailed it. I got up and asked why they only did it once. They said it was the most they could bench one time. They could do more reps with less weight. I got back on the bench and repped another 7. They turned a shade of red I can only describe as fire engine!!!!!!! I`ve been doing it ever since.

Sorry for your loss bro. I can`t begin to imagine. But congrats for getting away from the bottle. It can be a dangerous thing.

Much respect to you Brother, great strength doing what you did.

I was always skinny, and I'm about 5' 10" on a good day. A few years back I became friends with a bouncer at a local bar, and he was a big guy. I was about 150lbs at the time and he motivated me to start training. Still at 5' 10" on a good day, but weighing in around 215lbs. I give him all the credit for motivating me, teaching me the ropes w/ nutrition and training... and "supplements". :)

I started with weights when I was 17-18 years old. Through my teens and early 20s I only worked out to look good, that is to have a built upper body, it was for aesthetics only. Somewhere approaching my mid 20s the desire to look good started getting replaced over the years with training to feel good. Now in my early 30s I train 80% for health benefits and to feel good, 10% to look good and 10% to just have an excuse to get the hell out of the house when need be.

I hit my heaviest weight ever at 205 lbs at the age of 27. Walking in the streets I could feel my inner thighs rub together. That did it, for me. LOL

Every man should know that feeling once in their life! Next time aim for 220!
