I'm looking at setting up a home gym and looking for some guidance from the people who work out at home. I probably won't be doing this for several months, but would like to start looking in cost to weigh the pro's and con's.

I do most of my workouts with free weights so I'm not looking for anything that has cables. I was thinking that if I get a really good power rack and bench that inclines and declines, I should be good to go. What do you guys think?

Any words of wisdom from people who work out at home? Is there anything you would do differently if you had to redo your home gym? Are there any equipments that you like and can recommend? Thanks!

I work out from home and I can tell you that you really don't need all that much equipment.Things I would suggest are:
1)Power rack(I purchased a rack by Bodysolid, and although it's not top quality, it has held up through all the abuse I've given it.Cost was only around $175 US)
2)300-ib olympic set with an extra set or two of 45-ib plates(depending on your strength level)
3)Adjustable bench
4)Adjustable dumbells
Shouldn't cost more than 500 dollars.Less if you shop around a bit.

I agree with ballast. One question ballast, where's a good site to go to buy quick adjustable dumbells.

alot of fitness magazines have those ads in the middle, well actually most of the magazine is ads, anyhoo, ads that sell equipment and I noticed one that had a 300lb. set of just weights, $99.

What's up Blue? The first and last place I've ever shopped for home equipment is:

I won't say their stuff is inexpensive. It's not.But it is the best quality equipment I've ever used.Their dumbells are AWESOME.The price will put a dent in your wallet, but if you are looking for something that will last, it's a good place to shop.
