Whats so bad about a protein bar?

Who said it was bad?

I don't have enough tupperware to hold all the food I eat. Besides, I don't want to wash all those dishes. Protein Bars come in their own "handy wrap".

Anyone ever tried soy nuts? They are actually very tasty. I'll trade 9 cans of peanuts (mixed nuts picked out) for 2 bags of soy nuts.

i searched up many topics here on protein bars..and everyone says to avoid them at all costs

It is better than nothing or a candybar but nothing is even close to real food. A protein bar once and awhile is ok but if you are eating one once a day as a meal that is not a good idea.

most of them are full of sugar! not good!

You need a good mix of protein and complex carbs instead of a synthetic bar made with refined carbs.

...after a workout?

After a workout, it's a lot cheaper just to use whey protein. It's also simpler and has less processed crap in it. Protein bars are generally candy bars with protein in them.

As for the rest of the time, they are just processed crap and are not as healthy as natural foods, as with all other processed crap.

Tri-O-Plex still have quite a bit of sugar if I recall correctly, and if they don't have sugar, they at least have sugar alchohols (articifial sweeteners) which are pretty much just as bad if not worse, that being said it's still going to depends on how picky you are about what you eat.

Muscle Gelz Transdermals
IronMag Labs Prohormones
Protien bars have a lot of highly processed ingredients in them.

if you can't get enough post workout protein then you may use a protein bar , but that's not every day ...they have got lots of sugars and saturated fats .....also low quality protein...preservatives..

what about bars like tri-o-plex or metrx colassal?

Don't know about the Metrx bar, but Tri-o-plex failed labelclaimstesting.com when it was analyzed for ingredients compared to the label a few years ago.

Kashi has some awesome breakfast bars.

Flapjack is a mixture of oats, margarine, sugar etc etc, you could make them with oats, protein powder, dry banana or something along those lines, could be a good replacement for a protein bar.

http://duramecho.com/Food/Flapjack/

Porridge (chopped rolled) oats 125 g
Rolled oats 125 g
Margarine 150 g
Golden syrup 75 g
Sugar 75 g

Obviously you'll wanna loose the sugar and golden syrup and then stick in your protein powder and some dried fruit or whatever! Theres instructions on that website on how to make it aswell incase you didnt know ;)

What about protein bars that contain sugar alcohol?

The trouble is, when you store fat. the body converts triglycerides to glycerol to fat. Could this be why glycerol doesn't raise insulin levels? So why give your body something that is one metabolyte away from fat? Everyone I know gets immediately leaner when they give up bars! Additionally, usually the second ingredient is hydrolized geletan, this is garbage protein!
Side Effects of sugar alcohols....They can cause abdominal discomfort and bloating and they also have a laxative effect. Consumption of 30 to 50 grams of sorbitol or xylitol, or 20 grams of mannitol, causes diarrhea in most people.

OK, when you store fat, your body converts glucose, to triglyceride, to glycerol, to FAT! Glycerol and glycerine are interchangable words, they are a sugar alcohol and don't raise insulin level, but are one metabolite away from fat. Glycerine is used to sweeten and moisten bars, and does not have to be included in the carb count, but it does have to be in the calorie count!

So take your bar, (the new WWS Lemon is really bad, so are Biochem bars!) add up the P, C, And F at 4, 4, and 9 calories respectively. You will be left with 40-75 calories of glycerine. Divide that by 4.3 and you get grams of glycerine, usually 10-18!

Anyone on a cut will become leaner within days of giving up bars! I have done and seen this many times, especially watching guys "BLOW UP" post contest!

I guess I should stay away from bars. But what about convience; I cant shove an entire meal down my throat in 60 seconds. I guess MRPs are on the same line or no?

I used to eat a bunch of them...gained 20 lbs and felt awfull. Haven't ate one in months, lost the 20lbs and feel great. Just more processed crap with a misleading hype label to make you think they are good for you IMO

How's 2.99 or 3.99 cheap for a protien bar? Drink a whey protien shake instead to get twice or more of the protein with about 200 less calories.

Bars in any form just scream "hidden ingredients you don't want" The only bars you'll ever see me eat are powerbar recovery and it's probably because I just ran for 3 hours.

I eat a few bars a week when I have a long stretch of clients and don't have time to get a meal.

I'll probably die next year.

$$

it isn't that expensive.

If I eat 3 bars a week, and they cost $1.30 each, that is $3.90 per week. Think about how much money people spend on coffe each week!
