Are there any practical advantages to incorporating the use of static holds in a routine other than for instance: increasing grip strength?
Doesn't seam to be allot of information or solid research other than some forum theories that I can find regarding the subject.
Thanks.

It's an isometric exercise for your traps and your forearms. Nothing special about it. Good for specific strength, sometimes usable for hypertrophy.

Try one-handed farmer walks, switching hands without resting. You get conditioning, grip strength, core strength and upper back (traps) strength all in one exercise.

I do zero isolated forearm work although I do static holds on every set of deads, pull ups, & shrug work. It really builds the grip strength for those heavy deads. I try not to use straps except for extremely heavy dead work so the statics help me with that.

It's pretty much to build grip strength. If you need to work on your grip go for it. If you have some other goal, then there are probably more appropriate exercises for that.

Did you have anything in mind that you thought it might be applicable too, or was this just a curious thought about the exercise?

My grip strength is pretty good already so I don't do anything that would be considered isolation work for that.

What made me think to do some research is seeing some people do them while benching in the gym. They will load up much heavier weight than they can do just holding it locked out for as long as they can.
I didn't know if there was some strength or hypertrophy gaining magic that I was missing by not doing that.

If they're doing on bench then it's not to improve grip strength. Sounds more like they're doing it to improve there lock out.

Pointless to me but hey whatever floats your boat.

That has nothing to do with grip strength. It sounds like the equivalent of a walkout, but for a bench press. It is getting them more comfortable at holding heavy ass weights above them so that next time they unrack a new 1RM attempt, it won't feel so heavy.
