you cannot assert that Bush was better than Kerry or Gore because they were never president, thus you have no idea how they may have run the country.

bottom line is you are married to the republican party and you will support ALL republican presidents and NEVER support a democratic president, that was my original point. you will not even give Obama a chance, it would not matter what he did in office, he is a black democrat in your eyes and everything he does will be bad for the country. and if Obama does turn the economy around and/or anything else successful you will find a way to give the credit to the republicans some how and some way.

Don't bring race into this. nothing busy has ever said on here has led one to believe that obamas race played an issue in his decision not to vote for him. thats fucked up even insinuating that.

His opinion and the opinion of the country was that bush was the better choice to lead the country than gore or kerry. He also just said that there were policies of bush he didn't support. so get off the obama teet and chill.

well, I seem to remember you two having a great fond for a former member here named DOMS who was a HUGE racist, so if you like a racist I just assume that you are one.

the problem is I don't know if 4 or even 8 years is enough time for Obama to repair the damage Bush did, so either way you guys will say he failed when it's all said and done.

Oh, you mean the former member here that you made a moderator?

I liked DOMS a lot. His racist stuff always seemed to me to be toungue in cheek.

Really, I did not think it could have been more blatantly honest and real, I wonder how our Black and Hispanic members here viewed it?

Maybe he was serious & I'm wrong.. the things I saw I always interpreted as a joke.

Dude, don't bother. You are wasting your breath.

You are all being duped, from all sides....

Politics has become a huge ad campaign, it's all about who can market their product in a pretty package better. Billy Mays, Karl Rove, James Carville same job different products. It's quite easy to do since all your product has to be is the polar opposite of your opponent. Theirs the Cheaper brand (empty promises of less or no new taxes) and the Expensive brand (promises of more tax consuming programs) everyone knows they are most likely the same product and they are likely to get the same results either way so they tell themselves before shopping day they will just choose the Newer Brand in Middle price range because the company hocking it seems to have done their homework a little better.... But then when the day comes for picking it off the shelf they panic and grab the good old familiar......

The Latter Day Bush's 8 years should be enough evidence to all of you that Pres. can just be shiny wrapping on a whole package of shit......you know what they say about polishing turds right?

yea, thats how i thought of it as well. I have no doubt that if DOMS saw someone he could help he would do it regardless of race. People around here need to be a little thicker skinned.

You hit the nail on the head.

It's basically one-party rule. Yes, there are differences on some major bills, but most of the debate is over cosmetic issues, providing the illussion that there is choice.

Republicrats.

I am very disappointed in Obama.

I also does not matter which candidate wins in 2012, or which party controls the House and Senate at this stage even before it.

The United States is heading for insolvency. Period.

Medicare in less than 7 years, and Social Security, afterward. 77 million baby boomers born from 1946 to 1964 hitting both of these rolls.

Medical costs, year deficits, the "stimulus," and so on.

There is not changing the fiscal course the US is on. China and the rest of the world are slow buying up non-USD currencies and gold, copper and other commodities.

The US is printing money and dumping Treasury Bills. The party will soon be over, IMO.

I am not being duped, I have ALWAYS viewed ALL politicians as lying salesman that will do whatever the highest bidder will pay them to do.

Big Smoothy, if you were president of the US today tell me a few things YOU would do to get the US on the right path and fix the biggest issues at hand, i.e. the economy. AND explain why the way you would handle things would be more effective than how they are being handled now and in the past.

jesus christ, you need it explained?

Doh!

Is that why they attack her so much?

That's why BOTH sides attack her.

I think its also a huge reflection of McCain's judgment for selecting her as his running mate.
AhA!
Yes, if only he had the good judgment to pick someone like Biden.

He's an embarassment, and Obama knows it. What does that say about Obama's judgment?
AHa!

Let me answer that... I would stop spending. No stimulus packages, no bail outs, no mortgage forgiveness, no pumping billions into GM just to have it go bankrupt.

I would let the banks fail. I would let the homes foreclose. I would let companies go under. I would let the market fail or succeed as it naturally should without interferring.

If that means another Great Depression, so be it.

Spending trillions can make things seem better for a while but it is just a bandaid on the problem and ultimately it makes it worse. This has to be paid back eventually.

People blame Bush for this. They say it was because of his military spending. Obama's spending way more money than Bush did and somehow everyone thinks that's okay. YOU CAN"T GET OUT OF DEBT BY SPENDING MONEY. The only way to get out of debt is to quit spending, cut back on your lifestyle and pay it down. The American people aren't willing to do that. They still want to spend, spend, spend.

I don't believe it is all Bush's fault. This has been building for decades. Clinton is just as much to blame with making sure everyone could get home loans whether or not they could actually afford it.

The problem is with everyone's feeling of entitlement. Everyone feels they deserve a home, an SUV, computers, big screen tv's, etc... People put it all on credit. They can't afford it. The whole country is mortgaged and everything is bought on credit. It is a house of cards and it's coming crashing down. Obama is just piling more cards on the house. It might delay it but it will still crash down. We need something with a little substance.

I don't have the answers, because honestly, nothing can now be done.

But I would do this:

1. I would not have done any stimulus spending after the first Stimulus for the Meltdown of last September.

2. I wold not have increased the M-money supply.

3. I woud take the pay as you go approach and not run annual deficits as GWB and now Obama are doing. How not to? That means spend less, and probably means cuts in many things.

I've never claimed I'd handle things more effectively than now. I'm not trying to be pessimistic, I believe I'm being realistic.

Please read this:

In 2008, the Treasury Department issued the ???Intragovernmental Holdings??? account $254 billion in bonds (IOU???s), and in the first half of fiscal 2009 this account actually became a net seller of bonds. Because the account is not broken down by individual trust fund, it is difficult to see which specific trust fund liquidated their bonds, but we suspect it was Medicare. The benefits currently being paid out of Medicare are already running higher than its inflows, so the difference must have been made up by sales of its IOU bonds.

Obviously this is a very troubling development for the US, and unfortunately it is likely to get worse. This year???s Social Security fund is only expected to balance, which is bad news for the government. Along with Social Security, Medicare is one of the trust funds that should be posting surpluses right now in anticipation of the massive future commitments the retiring Baby Boomers will require. As it stands, Medicare is in an operating deficit in 2009 with premiums coming in at $14 billion and outlays totaling $348 billion.8 The difference will be supplemented by sales of its IOU bonds, which will ultimately add to the amount of new government debt that must be sold in fiscal 2009. We won???t speculate on what would happen to the Social Security program if new buyers for US debt disappeared, but we should all bear in mind that in that scenario the special-issue ???IOU???s??? in the ???Intragovernmental Holdings??? account would be rendered worthless, and the US Government???s social ???safety net??? would vanish.

Cut SS and Medicare? Riots in the streets and the third rail in politics.

I'll post a link for the above, in a couple minutes.

Edit in: Here is the link. Please browse this and notice the chart on Bonds (Treasury Bills).

I agree with this 100%, I don't now, nor have I ever lived on credit, I have ZERO debt except a mortgage, that's it. I don't say this to brag, I was in a crap load of debt after college, tens of thousands of $, and I busted my ass working and put every extra dollar I had towards paying off all of my debts, I was debt free within 5 years and owned my first house, and that was not because I was given any money, nor was it because I made a lot of money at that time, I didn't, it's because I did not live on credit and my primary goal was to pay off my debts, if I had extra money in my checking account I paid more towards my debts.

However, most businesses operate in debt and survive on credit, why should the government be run differently?

Quick addendum to the excerpt I posted about.

The link is about US Insolvency.

Here is a quick summation:

"As we hope the breakdown above has revealed, the future solvency of the United States as a nation state is currently in jeopardy. It is in far deeper trouble than the mainstream press cares to admit.

There are simply not enough new buyers of debt on this planet to support the spending programs of the United States government - and it appears that current holders of debt are beginning to sell. Because it is impossible to balance the budget from outside sources of capital, the only source of funds left for the US, in all reality, is continued money printing."

Link is same as above.

Huh, so there is no solution to our problems, come on.

Honestly Prince, no.

It's based on mathematics.

I hope everyone watches the 30 minutes video on YouTube called,

"IOUSA," freaturing form GAO head, David Walker.

so the US should just fold?

I just watched the video, he says our health care is 5 times worse than social security and he said the medicare bill to include Rx drugs that Bush passed a few years ago was the most fiscal irresponsible act by the government since the 1960's, we would need $8 trillion today to cover what this bill promises over the next 75 years. Good Job GWB! :clapping:

Yes, that bill signed by GWB is called "Medicare-D." It expanded the pharmaceutical coverage.

And Walker states that at that time in 2006, the US Gov needed $17 Trillion dollars invested at Treasury rates to cover it. How much did the US gov have?

$0.

Above is the "60 Minutes" interview posted by Prince, but everyone please Youtube "IOUSA." It's 30 minutes long, produced by Dave Walker, and has excellent charts and graphs. It's done very well.

Prince: no, the US should not fold. We will survive and live. But I think our standard of living will be different, and we'll appreciate the more simple things in life.

8 trillion over 75 years? doesn't sound so bad. obama is past 1 trillion per year
