Could accused Norway killer land in luxurious prison?

prison3_192036.jpg

While I agree with you that he shouldn't be able to see the light of day, we're different than Norway.

Besides, it's not their fault they're right next to an Ikea.

Are you kidding me!! Norway is fucked up, First of all they didint kill him on that island when they had the chance, now this is a possibility, Look at the photos of this place. What a ridiculous prison.

They do have an annual murder rate of under 100, along with a much lower recidivism rate. One of the safest places to live in the world. We have cities where 100 murders is a bad weekend.

Looks like a hotel room furnished by Ikea...

Very true, but their needs to be an exception for this deranged guy

I don't get the "alleged" killer or "the suspect" at all.

"No, man, there's no alleged about it. We have multiple eye witnesses who say you did it."

(insert Judge Dredd jpeg here)

And there would be zero chance of recidivism if a cop had taken care of things right then and there. :thumb:

I don't think they were too prepared for what happened, or the aftermath. I was really shocked when I heard it was in Norway. The whole system is built on the idea of rehabilitation over there, and I'm not sure exactly how that applies in this case.

Ikea furnished the place or what?

That could be where the punishment comes in. Maybe they make the prisoners put together the furniture. Can you imagine putting together furniture from Ikea all day every day?

From what I read the police were already circling the wagons at the political district when the call came out at the island. The helicopter crew was on vacation so they had to drive/boat to the island. The first boat stalled and they had to board several other boats to reach the island.

I think one of the problems is that Norway was as shocked by this whole scenario as we are. Who would attack Norway? Only direction to move is forward. Thankfully, in an error that I was actually happy to see, the mistakenly released 86 deaths was actually 68. That's still a heart wrenching number but that means that 18 more kids were able to make it home to their parents. :winkfinger:

I also approve of the other Ikea jokes so far in this thread.

Should let the victims parents have some time with him first...

They who? Source?

Ya that shit is bogus man. Atleast he didnt do it in Florida or he would have gotten away with it.

In his manifest he claims that he was high on steroids and ephedrin.. geeez,,,

Whoopdidoo. Norway is 94.4% white and has a populution of 4,827,038.

Pay to the Americans to send that fucker to Guantanamo Bay. The US could probably use the payments anyway

Still, their percentages are in the lowest in the world. I'm not saying that they should send the guy to live in an apartment that many American working stiffs can't even afford. But, you have to consider that a nation's criminals are a reflection of that the nation as a whole. If we treat criminals in a violent and inhumane way, how could we expect them to be any better. Our prison system is a mess, because our nation is a mess.

Norway has a nice prison system, because they have a nice society.

It would be interesting to read a run-down of societies versus their prison systems.

The GULag.

It's the culture, not the prison system, that accounts for the low crime rate.

Norway Killer Says Massacre Was Self-defense

Norway Killer Says Massacre Was Self-defense - YouTube
At the start of his trial, Norwegian killer Anders Breivik acknowledged killing 77 people last July, but said he carried out the massacre in self-defense. He was mostly calm in court. His lawyers said he's anxious to prove he's not insane. (April 16)

There is always some reason in madness - Nietzsche

Saying hes insane is the easy answer, understanding why his mind and conscience allowed him to do what he did are the hard questions.

The prison is too nice? Treating him like an animal will not change what has happened, being better than him will.
The ultimate punishments are killing him or torturing him, neither will change anything and will only make us no better. In times when torture was allowed, did it stop crime?
The death penalty isnt a deterrent either, how many people a day in the US commit crimes which could have that punishment inflicted upon them?

The world would be better served trying to understand him, although i doubt its possible, but still warning signs could be identified in human behaviour to help stop others.
