My pops has one. It doesn't jam (meaning the spring works fine unlike the drums that are round)

Edit: Opsgear is priced pretty good. I picked up a chest rig about a year back.

It's made by Surefire, as soon as I saw that I ordered a couple. if these magazines are anything like their weapons lights.

I was going to buy a BetaMag as you stated they have been known to jam

Their are pictures of those things being dropped and basically exploding internally. Just an FYI. For price I wouldn't be dropping those mags anyways. I've seen enough posts by credible mods on forums and few people in industry to know its really happened. How? it really happened is anybody's guess. I know there is always more to a how things happen story then usally gets told.

pictures where? I just don't see Surefire designing a product like that.

There have been lots of reports with peope having issues with sure fire mags. That's why they have made changes since they first came out. I looked into them very seriosuly at one point early on. I decided it was not worth risking my life. Its like peope hyping the Pmags as the total bomb for mags and saying they never had issues ether and were the best mags ever. I saw lots n lots of early ones fail. I know Pmags replaced all those free of charge with newer generations. After that experience it took me a long time before I would even try a p mag. I eventually carried a few after I torture tested the hell of them.
I haven't followed the SF mags in a while. I got a buddy that is true meaning of Tactikool
wana be. He's never fired an Ar in his life!!! He paid $1500 for a cheap ass poorly built $600 AR because he had to have one in the panic. He still hasn't fired it and he's suddenly an expert who knows everything on AR's and accessories. Which of corse he wants to school me on. I have over 20 years with em all way from the A1.
He has been driving me nuts with the beta and SF mags lately. Someone sent me some links of those round dumping inside of mag into a tangled mess. I did a little reading to see of it really happened and sent him link to shit him up at least for the day. I also happen to get another story bout a school/ instructor who no longer recommends they be brought to their classes for exact same reason with pictures. Just one of those weird all at once things where normaly I wouldn't even bother since no intrest.
I think SF is a stand up company. bottom line those mags all werent perfect from the start. We're the ones that were defective well within the small percentage of turning out x amount of mags to geting a few lemons during the manufacturing process? . I have no idea other then I suspect it was higher soce their were changed made. There are plenty of peope who reported issues as they made changes. Just as in terms of the mags internally dumping rounds. Yes it's happend. They were very credible sources. Was there more to story? very well could be, I wasnt there. That's why it was just an FYI. Their can always be alterior motives but it wast just some one that posted it without real proof and plenty of peope purporting to be witnesses. The way it was purported to happen makes sense with what I've seen mags do when they hit at the right angle too. Still I am not stating I saw it with my own eyes happening. Or a buddy who I would trust my life with that was there when it happened telling me where I know there isn't more to story for sure. My head is pounding. Got love allergies. I will look for one of the pics tomorrow. It doesn't look like I saved it so I am going to have to back track on how I got it.

I have pics of the most recent one I saw and second one is one that I've seen others post up from the beginning that made me reconsider them for my use. I created an album in my profile since I don't have an off site place for pics. I could not figure out how to put them in this thread from my HD. The first pic came from a training class. It wasn't someone trying to bash SF. Lots of instructors have reported when guys have to change from static firing to running n gunning it is where the issues reared up. Plenty of YouTube posts showing that there are issues happening during matches where guys are running n gunning. What is the statistical number to those sold or that have been out through hard use? That I don't have the answer I just wanted to give a heads up. I am sure there are plenty of happy customers too.

Can you provide a video or link to this info because I have never heard this before. I'm really into the gun world and I would have heard that kind of info (not saying its not true.)

Looks like mag prices have settled down a bit since the several state bans.

Yeah, everything seems to be dropped in price again. Gun shows are the best place to find mag's IMO.

Why not just get 2 standard issue 40 round mags and tap them together? 80 rounds for a third of the price. Plus you will look more badass like that.

There are pics under my profile in my photo album. I found umerous YouTube videos with issues being shown. I didn't count how many. Then add 7 plus pages on search function about complaints of SF mags that I have done so its not a one time thing. You can find just as many positive things too. But how may guys are really 14 year old kids posting about what there dad has that's never been used. A lot. How many are safe queens or guys that shoot 20-30 rounds a year but on the net talking line they are frgin experts. Answer is a lot. My buddy is one of em and I've seen others busted too. I am sure some of negative posts are from peope looking to stir the pot too. (Hell I could be one of those too) There are so many newbs posting shit about AR's and acessories that had long been proven as incorrect bad info is geting told as fact again. I've personally seen a lot of Ar that have went boom not bang. The issue were 223 chambers and hot 5.56 ammo. Those barreles and guns were all stamped 5.56 too. It was so prevelant that training classes in our are region required that the chamber be measured with the gage(not for checking if its 233 or 5.56) by the instructors before they'd let anyone run the course. The guy who created the concept of the tactical carbine course had pictures of not one but several AR's that blew up during their course by major manufactures and companies with DOD contracts. Not just once either. He was one of first to figure out wait was going on. Whole articles have been written about it. Some guy is blaming an over powdered load for his 15 year old barrel (that's when it was really bad too) and I told them before you slam the ammo have you measured the chamber? No, asswipe I don't need to the barrel is marked 5.56. I quit counting at ten other guys said all that matters is what the barrel and or rifle is stamped the manufacture would ever be wrong! Right there told me none of guys had any lengt of time behind Ar's or they would known about it and all the warnings certain ammo manufactures out out since they were getting the blame web their ammo was within specs. Lots of people spearing bad info on the net that have no real world experience. Its read it all and take with a grain is salt.
I thought about carrying one and I found enough info to make me say no way. (I dont even want to discss what I have wasted on over hyped gear before I wised up)
If I was using the SF mag for purpose I inteended it meant I was in some serious shit. When I went digging for the pic since I didn't save it I found a lot of guys still having issues with newer generations too. I hadn't filled te development since I decided against so I had no real clue how they progress had went other then the recent pics.
I've fired thousands of rounds through my mags from full auto to semi without issue. I just now had my 1st mag issue from a practice mag. That was my first ever issued to me mag. A 20 round mag that's seen service in the military since Vietnam. It should have been destroyed not kept in service because the whole lot was suposed to be bad and marked for destruction. But low n behold it stayed in service and was issued over m over until the 80's when I got it. It made it till 2012 before the spring gave out. To me that's very impressive.
From what I've read about SF mags no way in hell would I ever expect thst type of life span or reliability . I like the concept and I bet they get it right.(plenty of articles written by guys go were tasked with torture testing them for an agency who reported back they didn't hold up) Maybe its just a certain percentage of out of spec mags that's the issue. That is going to happen with any thing thats manufactured. I don't have the answers to it all.
Fun to use, I'm sure. Hell, I even stopped using the two mags coupled togther to keep weight on my rifle down. That weight gets old after a while. When they allowed to still train after my iniury It was all about weight reduction any way I could. I was doing my best to hide how hurt I was. Depending on movement (prone n moving prone) the 30's could be a pita.
All I wanted to do was put that info I had out there. They got big names endorsing SF mags too and I know there's people who make that argument for em . We all know better. They get paid and or free gear to do that. I've personally seen how that works. So that's another with a grain of salt. If someone says SF mags are the best mags ever and all they will own good for them.
D&H mags were under $13.00 recently and Pmags can be found for those price ranges at numerous places. Last time I checked for someone I was shocked to see some of sale prices at places like big box stores too. I have accounts where I get hooked up with pricing so buddies are always asking me to check on mags or parts since they are too lazy to
get there own. I Just saw x39 under $300 for a full case too. ( fingers crossed it keeps up)
