you also have to take into account a lot of the crime stats are inflated. in the US and in CA violent crime has been decreasing since the 70's. there was some increase in some areas but Diego which is so close to the Mexico border has seen a decrease in crime.
a small percentage of the population commits the majority of crimes. strangely the pareto principle seems to apply to most things. bogus crime stats (high conviction rates for minor drug offenses drugs rates via paid informant testimony, etc.) and the media inflate crime, it's a fucking joke...
top down grants from the gov in terms of farm subsidy's etc. kill far more people (from obesity, etc.) in the US and globaly than the dealers and drug sellers ever could. corn based sweetners have nothing except a negative effect on the health when consumed in the levels they are today as they are found in everything. corn based products are consumed in much higher quantities by those in the lower income quintiles...processed foods is cheaper than whole food.
US subsidy's put farmers in many agriculture based country's out of work since they can't compete with the prices and quantities the large scaled farms put out..
