At least 7 dead in Navy Yard shooting. Two possible suspects at large - The Washington Post

At least seven people are dead after as many as three shooters dressed in military style uniforms opened fire in a rampage at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday, police said, spreading fear and chaos across the region as authorities tried to contain the incident. D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said in a mid-day news conference that one of the suspected shooters is dead, while authorities are looking for two other suspects wearing green and tan military style clothing.

12 dead it says now. some messed up shit. one shooter is dead and two at large they believe.

Lordy! What is going on in this world of ours. And if they're looking for 2 guys in cammies on a military base, they're looking for a needle in a pile of needles.

Federal law enforcement officials say the man accused in a shooting rampage at the Washington Navy Yard that left at least 12 people dead has been identified as Aaron Alexis. The two officials spoke Monday to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.
One of those officials says Alexis was a 34-year-old from Texas. He is believed to have a criminal record there and to be a holder of a concealed carry weapon permit.

These stories will keep changing.... just heard he was part of a "military group." I'm going to try and find the video of it because it was from cnn.

The news outlets always do that. It's to keep conspiracy nuts busy.

you do realize that just because something is reported on tv that doesn't mean it's factual or the way it actually happened in reality don't you? there are no laws that state that the news has to be honest/truthful.

recent legislation passed has made it 100% legal for the US government to use propaganda against US citizens, so you might want to remember that when watching "the news".

No, I randomly typed a bunch of keys, out popped those words and they just happened to be related to the topic and acknowledge the fact that the news often initially states things that aren't factual.

Seriously, there's something wrong with you.

...he had exhibited a ?pattern of misbehavior,? which included insubordination and unauthorized absences.

Those issues had led the Navy to consider forcing Mr. Alexis out of the service with a less than honorable discharge. Law enforcement official said Tuesday that Mr. Alexis has been exhibiting symptoms of mental illness since his early 20s. The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly, said Mr. Alexis has been described by people who knew him as ?paranoid? and ?delusional.?

Investigators said people had begun noticing Mr. Alexis?s potential mental health problems around the time of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in 2001. Mr. Alexis?s father has told the authorities that his son had been among the first responders at the World Trade Center and that he believed that Mr. Alexis suffered from post-traumatic stress and had difficulty controlling his anger.
Mr. Alexis had been arrested at least twice during the past decade by civilian authorities for weapons violations.
Mr. Alexis, according to the report, had been arrested for shooting the right and left rear tires of another man?s vehicle with a .45-caliber pistol before firing a shot into the air. Mr. Alexis described the incident to detectives as an anger-fueled ?blackout,? according to the report.
Mr. Alexis had also been arrested in Fort Worth in 2010 for discharging a firearm after an upstairs neighbor said he had confronted her in the parking lot about making too much noise, according to a Fort Worth police report.

Must be nice living in your mother's basement and having her cook food for you when you are 50.

then again, it does suck the rest of us have to suffer with sorting through the drivel you post here to get to the relevant stuff.

[h=1]NBC Washington: Navy Yard Shooting suspect took assault rifle, pistol from cops he ambushed[/h]By BearingArms.com Staff / 16 September 2013 / 113 comments

This is incredibly damaging to the official media narrative of ?another guy bought a AR-15 and committed a massacre,? if this is true:
Survellance video shows the gunman entered the NAVSEA building, at 1336 Isaac Hull Ave., with a shotgun, law enforcement officials told News4′s Jackie Bensen.
He shot a security officer in the head, killing him, and took his 9 mm pistol and a magazine of ammunition. The shooter then continued through the building and seemed to target his victims, who were mostly on the third and fourth floors, Bensen reported.
D.C.?s Metropolitan Police Department and several other law enforcement agencies responded with active shooter teams.
During that response, a MPD officer was shot in the leg. The gunman was then shot by a FBI hostage response team, law enforcement sources told Bensen.
According to what witnesses are telling investigators, by the time the shootings ended, the gunman was seen with a semiautomatic 9 mm pistol and an AR-15 assault rifle. Authorities are investigating whether the gunman took the D.C. police officers? rifle.
This report states that the shooter, Aaron Alexis, was armed only with a shotgun as he entered the building. He then ambushed first responders and took their weapons and ammunition, creating his arsenal by acquisition as he carried out his attack.
If this account is true, there is a chance that the rifle in question was not an AR-15, but a selective-fire M4 or M16.
If that proves to be the case, then this would be the first time in the history of the United States that a legal (until it was taken), selective-fire assault rifle was used in a violent crime.
Update: A national NBC News report confirms that Alexis collected the rifle and pistol used in the shooting, but slightly changes the story to claim that the rifle was taken from a gun safe:
He packed an assault rifle and two other firearms during his lethal rampage ? including a shotgun purchased just weeks ago at a Virginia gun shop, multiple law enforcement officials told NBC News.
The officials also said Alexis obtained the assault rifle used in the shooting from a gun safe on the naval base. There?s where he may have also obtained a handgun, according to authorities.
One official who spoke to NBC News, however, cautioned there are still outstanding questions about where and how Alexis acquired the weapons used in the massacre.
Are Navy Shore Police, NCIS agents, Marines, or other security personnel at the Navy Yard in the habit of leaving gun safes open?

[h=1]Navy Yard Shooter used Remington 870 shotgun[/h]By BearingArms.com Staff / 17 September 2013 / 16 comments

There are multiple versions of the basic Remington 870 pump shotgun, which was designed in 1951 and is
the top selling shotgun in U.S. history, with more than 10 million sold. The ?Express? variation show above is representative of one of the most popular models. There are also variants designed for military, police, and home defense use.
It is not yet known which variant of the shotgun Aaron Alexis used, but the oft-repeated claim by many eyewitnesses that he used a ?long gun? suggests that he probably used a full-stock variant, similar to the image shown.

[h=1]Proposed gun control bills would not have stopped the Navy Yard shooter[/h]By BearingArms.com Staff / 17 September 2013 / 18 comments
A fuller picture of Monday?s Navy Yard shooting in Washington, D.C., is developing, in which a former Navy Reservist and current contractor named Aaron Alexis used his valid, current-issue ID to enter the Navy Yard and carry out a shooting spree that has claimed the lives of 12 employees, and wounded at least 8 others.
California?s Senator Dianne Feinstein didn?t wait for the tragic event to end before using it to call for more gun control laws:
Mrs. Feinstein, who was first thrust into the national spotlight as president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors announcing the shooting deaths of Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk, said, ?Congress must stop shirking its responsibility and resume a thoughtful debate on gun violence in this country. We must do more to stop this endless loss of life.?
?Thoughtful debate? presumably doesn?t include waiting for the smoke to settle and facts to emerge before deciding on a course of action.
Here is what we do know.
The two primary gun control bills proposed and pushed by anti-gun Democrats this year have been a ban on so-called ?assault weapons,? and a call for universal background checks.
We know neither bill would have done anything to have prevented the attack.
NBC News correspondent Pete Williams says that shooter Aaron Alexis followed Vice President Joe Biden?s advice to ?buy a shotgun,? and purchased one in the past week in Lorton, Virginia. That the location of the purchase was confirmed within hours of the shooting strongly suggests that he bought his shotgun through legal channels, where he would have had to fill out a form 4473 and pass a FBI NICS background check.
Nor would a ban on so-called ?assault weapons? have prevented the Navy Yard attack.
Multiple news sources are now confirming that Alexis entered the Navy Yard armed only with a shotgun. He used his shotgun to shoot Navy Yard security and obtain their weapons, a semi-automatic pistol and either an AR-15 or military-issue M16.
clearly, neither universal background check laws nor a ban on semi-automatic firearms would have prevented this rampage.
What might have?
Senators Charles Grassley and Ted Cruz had proposed a background checks amendment that would have strengthened mental health reporting to the existing FBI background checks system, but it was voted down by anti-gun Senate Democrats. What is less clear is if Grassley-Cruz would have been in place, or if it was constructed in such a way as to catch a man that local authorities never convicted.
Three things we do know for sure.
The Navy Yard, like all military bases, is a ?gun free zone? where only law enforcement are legally allowed weapons. Military bases otherwise lock their weapons in armories, and concealed carry of privately-owned firearms is not allowed. Why are military bases ?gun free zones?? Because of decision made by President Bill Clinton in 1993.
The other thing we know is that Alexis was showing signs of violent mental instability as far back as his 2004 ?blackout? shooting in Seattle and was treated recently for ?hearing voices.? Like the overwhelming majority of mass shooters, Aaron Alexis shows signs of having been mentally ill, and was never successfully treated.
Perhaps Democratic lawmakers with a gun control fetish can stop blood-dancing long enough to focus on the actual problem of mental illness this time.
The final thing we know?
The only thing that stopped this bad guy with a gun, were good guys with guns.
Odd how that always seems to be the case.

[h=1]CNN: AR-15 was not used in Navy Yard shooting[/h]By BearingArms.com Staff / 17 September 2013 / 104 comments
This undermines the media?s preferred narrative of the past 24 hours if true, but considering the many inaccuracies, inconsistencies, and contradictions in even a single CNN story, it would be irresponsible to take their claim as anything other than speculative at this point.

[h=1]Never let a tragedy go to waste: Obama looks to capitalize on Navy Yard shooting[/h]By BearingArms.com Staff / 17 September 2013 / 14 comments
Just as we saw in Sandy Hook, Aurora, Tucson, Northern Illinois University, the WestRoads Mall shooting, and Virginia Tech (just to name a few), the shooter here was a known mental health patient who slipped through the cracks:
Navy veteran Aaron Alexis, who killed 12 people at a Navy building in Washington Monday morning, had been suffering a host of serious mental issues, including paranoia and a sleep disorder, law enforcement officials told the Associated Press.
Alexis had been hearing voices in his head and had been treated since August by the Veterans Administration for his mental problems, the officials said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the criminal investigation in the case was continuing.
Aaron Alexis had firearms and mental health issues dating back at least until 2004, where he shot a construction worker?s vehicle in Seattle while apparently ?blacked out.?
Despite the fact that mental illness is yet again to blame, White House spokesman Jay Carney is indicating that Barack Obama is going to use the Navy Yard shooting to push for gun control:
In the wake of the shooting at the Navy Yard, Obama spokesman Jay Carney said the president is implementing executive actions and reiterated his commitment to strengthening gun laws, including expanding background checks to sales online and at gun shows.
?The president supports, as do an overwhelming majority of Americans, common-sense measures to reduce gun violence,? Carney said.
Alexis did not buy his Remington 870 shotgun at a gun show (where licensed gun dealers do carry out background checks, despite claims to the contrary), but at a gun store, after passing an FBI NCIS background check.
Likewise, Guns purchased over the Internet can only to a gun dealer, where the purchaser must complete a FBI background check before the gun transfer is completed.
As is typical of this White House, they are begin intentionally deceptive.
